My bungalow in the jungalow was 87 stairs to heaven. It was exactly what I was looking for when I planned my adventure. ||Hilcia and her staff were amazing. They took incredible care of me. My bungalow was always nice and clean, and the breakfast was lovely every morning. I was able to keep all beverages and food in the fridge in the common area, and the wi-fi (also in the common area) allowed me to FaceTime my Son morning, noon or night.||The bungalow was rustic. If you don’t like bugs, you should consider another option (although you’d be missing out). This is not a complaint. I loved the breeze flowing through my abode and the awe inspiring sunsets. ||The walk to Santa Theresa took about 7 minutes. The beach is a 3 minute walk. Everything is within reach if you want it and far enough away if you don’t.||I left my sweater there and Hilcia was kind enough to mail it all the way to Canada for me.||I recommend Hilcia and the Blue Jay Lodge to everyone. I left a piece of my joy-filled heart there and I...
Read moreMy husband, son(18), daughter(17) and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Mal Pais at Blue Jay Lodge. The bungalow was a delightful space with full shower and a large bedroom and balcony with a window onto the forest of Mal Pais- just what we wanted. A large ceiling fan and an oscillating fan kept most of us comfortable in the heat. The staff were friendly and very helpful.||We met guests from France and the US, during our stay. ||The typical Tico breakfast was delicious as was the Americano. The lovely Mal Pais beach is just across the street and the pool is adjacent to the breakfast pavilion. ||Hearing the Howler Monkeys in the mornings and seeing large iguanas and beautiful birds from our balcony hammocks was a wonderful treat. ||Our children especially loved Poopah(sp?)- the 2.5 year old, resident canine, who followed my daughter "home" to our bungalow one night and greeted us for a belly rub, at...
Read moreWe love coming to the Blue Jay, and have found which cabin we enjoy the most. Our preference is for a tree top view because we like the view. It is spectacular! Be warned, the only way to the tree top cabin is by using stairs. There are 71 steps from the parking area to the tree top cabin of our preference. There are lower cabins that are just as nice, but without the steps. The breakfasts are delicious and we also enjoyed a red snapper dinner. (The dinner's reasonable cost was extra.) On this visit we saw - and heard - howler monkeys as well as white faced monkeys. They are not always in the neighborhood. It is an easy walk to a near restaurant or to the beach. I would suggest wearing water shoes at the beach as it can be rocky in areas. The owner and staff do their best to make sure you enjoy your visit. They are friendly, nice, and helpful. We will...
