This is our second trip to Indigo Yoga Resort, and it's as magical as the first. This is a perfect place for us to relax and explore with our 7YO daughter. The people are wonderful and accommodating, the rooms are large and well-kept, with air conditioning that actually works! (lots of places in Costa Rica can't say that.) Breakfast is fresh, simple and healthy - local fruit, eggs, coffee, fresh bread and homemade pancakes. The pool is beautiful and perfect for children of all ages. To explain what makes this place magical, and also to counter a couple of other reviews: LOCATION: Indigo Yoga Resort is a couple of kilometers south of Santa Teresa. You do need a car, quad or bike to get around... but it's worth it!! Every morning we sit on our back porch in the hammock and watch the hummingbirds, howler monkeys, iguanas and red squirrels. (Also a couple of chickens, cats and a very cute puppy.) It is a long drive to get to Santa Teresa, over winding dirt roads. That is part of the adventure. TECHNOLOGY: There are no TVs in the room. Who comes to CR to watch TV? The in-room coffee makers are typico pour-over style, low tech and perfect. The entire resort has wi-fi and our AT&T phones worked great here. NOISE: It is peaceful here. There is occasional road noise but not at night. Way better than in downtown Santa Teresa. ACTIVITIES: The yoga instructors are world class, you can either go with the resort's schedule or they will help you book private instructors. They will help you book other activities, surfing, horseback riding, and have always referred us to great tour operators. You can walk to the beach directly across the road, or a short drive takes you to a beautiful private beach. The best beach for swimming and little kids is right at the main road/intersection in Santa Teresa, 5 minutes away.
While many spots in Costa Rica are becoming overdeveloped, urban beaches, this place is remote enough that you actually get to experience true Costa Rica, but refined enough that it still offers many comforts. For us that is the...
Read moreWe have been traveling all over the world over more than 25 years. ||||We already have spent a week in Santa Teresa, staying in a small hotel on the main street, enjoying the beautiful beach and surf.||||We were looking forward to a nice week of yoga and surf in a resort and Indigo looked like such a great place... In pictures.||||The idea of a container room sounded pretty cool, until we got to that place. ||||Mold||The room they gave us was full of mold and within only a few minutes inside impacted breathing. The smell was so awful, pungent musty mushroom smell.||||We couldn't stay there due to serious health concerns.||||Cleanliness - Dirty||On top of the mold smell, it wasn't clean: one towel had a brown stain on it; cutlery and cooking utensils were dirty, some with dried food still stuck on them. Didn't look any further after that; we got out of there quickly.||||Yoga - Nope||In addition, they advertise this place as a Yoga and Surf resort. There is no yoga available for guests unless you are part of a group going there for a yoga retreat. This is extremely misleading.||||Surf - Nope||To add to this, they are not a surf resort. They can book lessons for you with an actual school; not the same thing as an actual surf resort; again, misleading. There are real surf resorts in Santa Teresa, this is not one of them.||||Owner - Condescending ||We talked with the owner and she was very disrespectful, condescending and not helpful at all. ||||We requested a refund and the owner refused and told us to put a dispute for the refund through the booking App and she laughed at us. They have a zero refund policy, that should also have been a warning sign for us.||||Other Reviews ||After leaving that awful place, we did what we should have done in the first place, we looked at Google reviews and this website for real reviews. We found so many stating the exact same issues in regards to the mold and health concerns as well as the yoga scam.||||In conclusion, there are so many nice places in this area,...
Read moreThe resort has lovely grounds that meander through the jungle, and and fair sized pool that is perfect for families with kids, 1 part is a kiddie pool, the rest is at least 4 1/2' deep. Very relaxing place to stay. The bungalows have two bedrooms and a nice sized kitchen, as well as bathrooms that are partly outside (really fun) and AC in the main room. There is no TV, microwave or coffee maker, and the wifi is pretty good. Forget about getting a verizon signal there. ||||The resort itself is located far enough from the main drag that you have to have a car. You can walk to town, but the incredibly dusty road (during the dry season) means walking would be miserable. Its a 8 minute walk to the beach, which is really rocky and while pretty not for playing on. For a stunning beach take the 20 minute car ride all the way to end of the road at Playa Hermosa for the endless miles of perfect beach that you came here for. ||||Miguel the manager will get you set up with anything fun you want to do, but be prepared to pay in cash, US dollars. There is one yoga class a day for $12 per class, and my wife really enjoyed both the instructor and the setting. There is a great breakfast included. it didn't change much in the 5 days we were there, but it was perfect for us and included coffee. Other food seemed really expensive for portion size. ||||Which is also what you get in Costa Rica these days, 1/2 the fun and 4 times the cost of a decade ago. Granted, we came at the highest of the high season, but still. The area is pretty, the surfing is amazing, but your going to spend $60-80 US per night feeding a family of four with some beers for the adults, maybe $40-60 for lunch. Zip lining will run you $50 a head, same for horseback riding. For the total cost of going to Costa Rica these days you can go anywhere. For me, that means this was...
