This hotel was a delightful place to stay in the area with very friendly and attentive staff. It appears to have been renovated recently, with large and beautiful rooms decorated in a modern style, comfortable beds, and strong air conditioning. Our room had a small coffee/tea station and a mini fridge. The grounds were beautifully landscaped with a sparkling pool, gardens, and bird feeders that invited wildlife so guests could see them up-close! The on-site restaurant The Green House serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, has a full bar, and had really inventive and innovative new options for lunch and dinner every day including a vegetarian option. We were blown away by the taste, the creativity, and the presentation of the food. The included breakfast was also delicious and made to order with a few options including the pictured gallos pintos (traditional Costa Rican breakfast including black beans and rice with 2 eggs and cooked sweet plantains with fresh fruit). The owners really went out of their way to make guests feel welcome and comfortable, even having coffee and tea available at 5:30 AM prior to the early morning boating tour with Jimmy, who was a skilled birding and general nature guide. I would recommend this place highly to bird watchers or general nature lovers, even if it’s just to stop in for a meal at the covered open-air restaurant while in the area. We will for sure...
Read moreIf you like nature and places off the beaten tracks, this is the place to go! We stayed for two nights and really enjoyed every minute! Everyone of the staff was extremely friendly and we really felt taken care of. The owners of the lodge have done a lot of renovations recently and continue to make upgrades. We had a lovely room with all amenities needed. The AC worked perfectly. Staff members pointed out animals right on their grounds and we were able to see and take great pictures of a sloth and monkeys. They also have a naturally set up bird feeding station which allows to get a close up look and taking great pictures. The included breakfast was delicious and we were given a choice of continental or a more traditional Costa Rican breakfast. Both were great! Lunch and dinner choices change daily with a great variety and they they even accommodate extra wishes. The food was absolutely delicious! We booked an afternoon and also a morning boat tour. Both were amazing and we got to admire not only countless birds, but also got introduced to other animals and amazing flowers and trees. Jimmy was our guide and his knowledge was phenomenal! We also enjoyed our conversations with the owners Marina and Pablo. Keep up your...
Read moreEnjoyed a two-night stay at Cano Negro Natural Lodge as part of our ten-day birding trip. Were last here in 2018. Since then the lodge has undergone considerable remodeling. Rooms have been redone but most noticeable was the replacing of the dining/bar building with a huge pavilion housing the reception, bar and restaurant. IMO the metal roof is a major drawback given tendency for major heat despite the ceiling fans. However, our experience at the lodge was very positive. Our meals were excellent and our room was quite pleasant. Tastefully decorated/furnished with ac, mini-fridge, roomy bed, and a large shower and bathroom area separated from the rest of the room with a door on rollers/track much like a barn door. The sink had a stopper (many places don’t) and the bath towels were substantial! Staff were most friendly.||Nice walkways, feeder in front of the dining area, well-maintained lawn with various trees and bushes and nearby forested areas proving habitat for birds and other wildlife. Besides several species of birds we saw opossum, howler monkeys and a sloth. The lodge is very close to the lagoon and the launch ramp to the river. |We would certainly...
