We booked Birdsong Villa on VRBO for our stay at Arenal. It’s a stunning location and we wanted to be away from the hustle of La Fortuna. Unfortunately some hotel booking sites can mislead a person to think they are getting the whole property, when in fact the owner, Alan, has three units. When searching later we saw we had only rented a small unit for the property and were upset. We contacted the host and he called immediately to help clarify the problem. We never felt entitled to get the whole property, but the owner called me later to insist that we should have the whole home for the low price. Unfortunately we were too nervous and had booked alternate lodgings in the meantime. So we cancelled. Below is the letter I wrote to the dedicated owner.
“When we booked we thought we saw photos for the whole house and at the time wondered if we might have so much room to entice our children to visit with us.
When we found out that we didn’t have the whole house we were upset that is true. I did really appreciate your call and that helped somewhat but if the mistake was on our part I didn’t want to risk the chance we wouldn’t have the whole house, ( your reviews say you are an excellent host and upon hearing your message, I can see why. We did not expect your generosity, and I hope I didn’t cause you harm in your standing with vrbo. I would like to correct it if I can. I did go on a number of other hotel booking sites and I guess they sometimes show pictures of the whole house not mentioning that there are three separate apartments. ( as a user of vrbo I couldn’t even find the separate listing numbers you gave me for the units. That’s a problem on their end). Some places mention in their descriptions that each apartment are one of three etc. so a person knows you are not getting the whole house. “

Read moreMy 2-night stay at the Birdsong Villa was a brilliant last minute decision, which I spontaneously took after deciding to bus my way up to La Fortuna to spend a day hiking and discovering the beauty of the Arenal National Park with newly met friends.||||Though it was so last minute, Alan (the owner) was very accommodating and easy to get in touch with. He even arranged a taxi transportation to pick me up from the Arenal National Park once the day ended.||||I arrived at the villa when it was already dark, yet he stood there waiting and, after I mentioned being a bit hungry, even brought me to the center of the rural town where I was able to buy get a little something to eat before bedtime.||||The suite I booked was the garden view suite. What can I say about it? Frankly, I was expecting it to only be a room but it was a whole house - kitchen, living room and bathroom included, all for me! I was very pleasantly surprised. Everything was very clean and functional, and the decor was aesthetically pleasant. 10/10 would live in such a house. ||||I was met, in the morning, by the most stunning 180 degrees view of the Arenal Volcano, lagoon and rainforest. I stood in awe and admired the beauty of the scenery from the comfort of the suite's bed. It was surreal! Breakfast was also delicious. Provided in the suite was also a coffee machine and all culinary tools needed to eat or even cook your own meal.||||Alan was also very helpful in arranging for me to go hike with Fernando, a very kind local, the next day. It was easy for me to book a second night there!||||Thank you for everything, Alan! I will definitely return to the Birdsong Villa, should life ever bring me back to Costa Rica (which I...
Read moreBirdsong Villa is undoubtedly the best place to stay if you want a great view of Arenal volcano and quality relaxing time. It worked really well for us as a family and I feel it will be a great choice for honeymooners and people who really want to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of city life to rejuvenate. |Our family (2 adults, a 6 year old and a 2 year old) stayed there for two days and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of our stay. The villa sits on top of a mountain overlooking Arenal volcano, we drove from Coco Beach to here and passed Lake Arenal on our way, the drive was long but full of amazing views. The villa is extremely comfortable with all the possible amenities one can wish to have in a rainforest/on a mountain. From the super comfortable bed to the outdoor shower (yes we met Mr. Frog there 😊)... the lovely breakfast area outdoor to super clean bathroom to the GORGEOUS windows.... we literally could see the volcano from inside our suite. However what made our stay even more special was the awesome hospitality of Allan, the host. Allan was extremely helpful from the time we inquired to the time we left the place. He provided us great suggestions, accompanied us for dinner, entertained us with his wealth of knowledge and made sure our kids had as much fun as us. Allan has set the bar...
