All of our experiences in Costa Rica were different, but the night and morning we spent at NCAV were surreal. We arrived just after dark when Anthony warmly greeted us at the entrance with a free coconut which he chopped off of a tree and prepared for us while we were getting out of the car. He told us a bit about the camping area and the sloths on the property while we drank from our coconut. He then he handed us a small organic banana (also grown on the property) to round out the best welcome basket you could ask for after a long drive. He led us to the camping area in his vehicle (approx. 500 meters from the entrance) and showed us where we could set up. The camping area holds 2 bathrooms, running water, and an above-ground swimming pool that overlooks La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano. Anthony asked us if we wanted a free tour of the property the next morning to see some of the wildlife on the property and a 200+ year old tree next to the river. During our walk/hike/ATV ride that morning, Anthony pointed out a sleeping sloth in a tree just off the road. It was the first sloth we had ever seen and was such a nice surprise as we were just looking for a comfortable place to camp for 1 night. I wish we could have stayed longer, and in hindsight should have, as nothing else in La Fortuna quite struck our fancy like our time on Anthony's family farm. Pura Vida Mae!!! We...
Read moreThis is one of the most peaceful, beautiful camping spots I have ever been to. It is located just a short drive, approx 5 mins by car but city center of La Fortuna on a family run farm that is rich in history. The owners are incredibly friendly, welcoming and very responsive. The care and love they put into this piece of paradise in the mountains is abundantly clear with manicured vegetation and cleanliness of the grounds.
For 5,000 colones per night per person you get every amenity you could expect from any airbnb or hotel. Each site is well equipped with a rancho, running water, hydro, fire pit, washrooms and showers and a sink for washing dishes. Not to mention there are two swimming pools and a lake for fishing that’s stocked with hundreds of Tilapia.
The views of Arenal Volcano are unmatched on a clear day and there is a rock pathway to the river below that is fresh and a great place to cool off or just hang out.
I highly recommend this camping spot, you can just show up or reserve a spot by contacting the owner via...
Read moreReally such a nice place. We have been there in a group of 3 people, they offered tends, matresses, a grill for barbecuing and a lot of other stuff (like cuttlery, a stove running with gas, extra gas and a bunch of stuff to cook with). They even brought us wood for having a nice fire. Anthony is a super nice Guy, he is helping with locations near La Fortuna, giving nice recommendations and there is also a river where you can have a nice bath as well. An awesome view is inclusive, you are feeling like standing next to the volcano and there is drinkable water, directly from the clear river, which tastes better than every filtered water i ever tasted. You can have a swim in the river as well! So don't even hesitate to go there and feel like home. Would come again every time!! Thanks for everything. This Place...
