The absolute worst experience I had while in Costa Rica. Lets start by saying that other night tours in this price range include transportation from La Fortuna Hotels, but that was my fault for not reading thoroughly. We took an uber to the location on the ticket, about 20 minutes away from La Fortuna central area, we struggled to find the correct location , theres only one small sign and its in a super dark area. When we arrived it was a house, and nothing else, and our uber stuck around because he said it seemed sketch. There was absolutely no lighting and it was PITCH BLACK , we could not see, so we used our cellphone flashlights and kept walking, eventually we saw a small sign that said night tour 500ft that way, our uber couldnt go because it was not a 4x4, so he left and once he left, so did all the little lighting we were getting from his headlights. So we started walking in the pitch black with our cellphone flashlights only to walk into mud and almost just roll down. I gave up after being able to see absolutely nothing in the middle of woods/nowhere and almost slipping multiple times, and gave them a call, only to be told they did not see my reservation , and the night tour was cancelled for the night , but then he looked again and saw the reservation , apologized and offered a refund, but now we were stranded , with no transportation, no lighting, little signal, and it started drizziling so we stood under the random's house roof trying to get our internet to work to call an uber, however luckily the man that lived in the random house came out and was an amazing person , he ended up giving us a ride, back to our hotel , we surely lucked out! but the experience with this company was absolutely horrible. We wasted our time and money. I feel like they should have let us know ahead of time that the tour was cancelled, which would have been fine, instead of once we already arrived. I hate leaving bad reviews but it would be an injustice to go unsaid to future...

This tour was okay. I wasn’t impressed with our guide. We were with 8 other people, so total of 10. We were near the back of the group and he would point things out to only the few people at the front! He was pointing out a spider to others in the group, but didn’t help us. My fiancé and I tried to find it but couldn’t :( this made me pretty frustrated as I paid $107. Other tours I went on in La Fortuna were less expensive and the guides took pictures and videos for us and airdropped them to us at the end. Our guide didn’t do that at all :( The guide also seemed just over it at the end of the tour. He said something and I tried to ask him what he said, but he didn’t hear me. I asked another family on the tour and they said that he said we could call his boss and come back in the day time to try to see monkeys. However we left La Fortuna the next day, so we couldn’t do that. I just felt oddly ignored on the tour?

We also spoke with another couple on a different tour and they said they did a night tour at a different location in La Fortuna and saw a bunch of frogs, snakes, etc. so i feel like I missed out :/

Good things about the tour: it was fun and kind of spooky to walk around the jungle at night. We did see a few frogs and some insects that the guide pointed out. It was raining when we came so we understood that maybe we wouldn’t see a lot.

Side note: the guide picked up mating frogs, let 2 kids hold them, tried to put them back, tripped, the frogs fell…I think he put them both back up on a leaf. This was an accident but I felt bad for interrupting...

I can't tell you how the tour is as we spent 107 usd didn't get to take it. The problem here was communication for us. We booked a couple weeks in advance. When we arrived in Costa rica a week and a half prior to the tour we realized that it got dark much earlier than we anticipated and struggled a bit with jet lag, so we asked a 8 days prior 9/28 via the supplied email address if we could move our 8 pm time slot to 6 pm. We received no response so I asked again 4 days later 10/2 and received the answer "Hi Stacy I apologies for the late reply We will acomdate you at 6pm tour Best regards Francisco vallejos" On the day of the tour 10/6 I received an email saying that they had tried to call me and since I didnt confirm my time change that we would have to do 8. I read the email days earlier that they had made the change. It didnt work out as we didnt feel like doing it this late so we just skipped it. They did try to reschedule us but we were at the end of our trip and we did not have time. I was blamed repeatably for using the email address that they supplied, we had access to email and text but no voice on our trip and had no trouble with anything else over the 15 days we were there. It was a disappointment but the rest of the trip was amazing so I won't let one bad experience take away from the beauty...

Excellent tour. Lots of frogs, anoles, snakes, bats, lizards, sloths, sleeping birds and cool plants. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and could find even the tiniest of frogs. I recommend this tour.

Francisco and his team are incredibly knowledgeable and gave me and my friends and unforgettable experience. It is also very powerful to see a project like this. While a lot of the immediately surrounding areas are being turned into farmland, this project is protecting the natural jungle and forest. Francisco and the property owners play a key role and are a great example of Costa Rica’s larger approach to development, eco-tourism and ecological conservation via small enterprises that work not only in harmony with nature, but in favor of it. The tour area itself is wonderful (is not just someone’s ‘backyard’ like I read from another reviewer), it’s a legit forest, allowing us to be immersed in the jungle and have an exciting hike while seeing so many different plans and animals. I also learned some epic night photography tips which were fun to learn and can’t wait to use them again. In essence, if you are looking for a unique experience with fun and knowledgeable guides that’s also socially and environmentally responsible, this is the place to be!
