We decided to stay an extra night (for a total of 3) at El Churrasco even before arriving and we are glad we did.

The location at nearly 2000m ASL is unique in its own right, especially for CR as the air is cooler and more refreshing. Poás Volcano is only a 15 minute drive from the hotel and even downtown SJO is less than a 1.5 hour drive as well. There are some great views from the hotel and area in general.

The restaurant is delicious and serves up great included breakfasts for guests each morning (2 options - typical or continental/western). We had dinner twice in their restaurant as well and as it’s a steakhouse, we had steak both times. It was delicious, even compared to Canadian steak. The staff were very friendly and we were lucky to be dining during the low season so the restaurant was never full.

The hotel itself is amazing - cozy, comfortable and homey. The walls and ceilings are all wood-paneled so it feels like a chalet. Our tv was the best we’ve had in CR as there were multiple English-only channels with great quality video. The shower was always hot when needed, which is a necessity as the nights did get cool.

A very pleasant surprise was that we asked if the hotel did laundry and they do, however we were never charged for it (bless them). They’re truly very nice and generous people!

Do yourself a favor and stay here when in the Central Valley, you...

This place is an absolute must visit if you're in Costa Rica! From the moment I walked in, I could tell this place was special. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home. The general manager is a total sweetheart, always checking in to make sure everything is perfect. But what really stood out was the owner. He is humble, professional, and truly passionate about providing an amazing experience for every guest. You can tell he puts his heart into this place, and it makes all the difference.

Now, let’s talk about the food...WOW! Every single bite was packed with flavor, and you could taste the quality in everything. The steak was perfectly cooked, the sides were delicious, and the entire meal was just top notch. They clearly take pride in what they serve, and it shows.

On top of the incredible food, they also have rooms where you can stay the night. The rooms are spotless, giving off that cozy cabin vibe with a breathtaking view of the surrounding nature. Waking up here felt like a dream; very peaceful, quiet, and absolutely beautiful.

If you’re looking for a place with amazing food, incredible hospitality, and a relaxing stay, this is it. Between the top-tier service, the welcoming atmosphere, and the humble yet professional owner, you won’t find a better experience. I’ll definitely be coming back!...

Got 3 rooms for one night after flying into San Jose. Planned to visit Volcano Poas in am and then head toward La Fortuna (Stop at La Paz en route). Basically this place was THE BOMB. The family that runs it was awesome, the daughter helped with how much to tip after dinner - the father coming around asking us questions and helping with our Spanish.

The food was very good. My son kept saying throught our week in Costa Rico that he wanted to go back for the steak & eggs with rice and beans. I had the same and it was very good. (The milkshake my delighter had was more like a chocolate milk, though - FYI).

The rooms were great. We had a log burning fireplace in our room that the father/owner started. He was skeptical the wood would burn as it was pretty newly cut (green) - but he got it working!! It was really nice to have.

Lastly the grounds were meticulous. I will note our showers in the AM were a bit on the chilly side, but our Daughter / friend said theirs was hot and our Son / Friend said theirs was perfect. So, maybe we were last to use???

Anyway - stay here. There is a choice of two breakfasts included in the reasonably...

My wife and I stayed one night here and everything was excellent. The location was perfect for our morning visit to the Poás Volcano. The room was clean and cozy, and we loved the many colorful hummingbirds in the grounds. The staff was very polite, friendly and professional. Special thanks to Yerlin Porras, who went above and beyond from the moment we arrived and made everything even more special. We also had dinner at the restaurant. The food and wine were great and it was the perfect way to end our day. We highly recommend El Churrasco and would stay again if/when we are around again. Muchas gracias!
