Tacacorí EcoLodge — Hotel in San Isidro

This was a great choice to start our recent Costa Rica holiday. After a long flight, we really wanted somewhere close to the airport but not in San Jose itself, and this was the perfect property. It was only a short 30 minute drive from the car hire pickup and was our first introduction to some of Costa Rica’s more unique road surfaces !.||The property consists of several bungalows set within the beautiful tropical gardens of the main house. Each bungalow is secluded in its own part of the garden and has its own deck overlooking the luscious planting and wildlife – we spotted a tree porcupine on our first night.||The bedrooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable and the bathrooms were well designed and immaculate. We had breakfast included which was taken on the deck up by the main house, looking back over the gardens. The breakfast consisted of fresh fruit followed by scrambled eggs and toast with an option to try the local Gallo Pinto (rice and beans) as well. All this was served with a decent pot of Costa Rican coffee.||The owner was very helpful and advised what to see and where to eat in our short time in the Central Valley. We made a reservation at Tacacori Econolodge in San Jose Costa Rica for April 4, 2023. My girlfriend requested a room that didn't have stairs and easy access to the room since I was recovering from knee surgery. It took us awhile to find the resort since it was buried in a residential neighborhood on a windy mountains road. Once we entered the hotel, we immediately knew that I would not be able to get to the hotel room due to the hill the hotel was on. But we made it to the hotel room without our luggage to to see if I could get in/out of the hotel easily. Not only could I not get in/out of the hotel room, the room had two small beds, nothing like the pictures they posted on their website. We told the manager we couldn't stay there and she didn't have a problem and understood my concerns with my knee. But the manager charged my credit card for the room and I have been fighting with Booking.com to get a refund for over a month. Room had seen better days and in need of a good clean and renovation. Our room had mould and damp issues and ants were running up the wall behind the bed. We had to move the bed away from the wall to prevent the ants running over our bed in the night. We mentioned this to the owner in the morning and she said she knew about the ants, but they don’t bite! The property was quite hard to find and to get into, with the gate in a difficult position on a narrow steep road. We had to drive along the road three times before we figured out how to get into it, which wasn’t what we wanted after a long drive.
