Wow! What a day! A friend and I decided to do the self-guided tours. We walked the longer of the two trails. During our hike, we saw agoutis, toucans, a bunch of different bird species, sloths, and raccoons. At one point during the hike, we heard a very loud commotion. We looked up and a troop of capuchin monkeys were traveling overhead. It was amazing. The troop settled down near us to feed and rest and the monkeys ignored us. After we spent a good time with the capuchins, we continued on the trail. Towards the end of the hike, we were discussing how we wished we saw some peccaries and all of a sudden we heard another commotion and a small herd of collared peccaries were feeding. So cool! After the hike we settled down for some great food and natural fruit drinks. Tomorrow we are scheduled to Zipline with Hacienda Baru and I can't wait.

We did self-guided walking, $15 each. I did the trails on the south side (Sendero Pizote and Circuito Saino). The path was quite muddy in places, but doable. We saw peccaries, an agouti and a coati. Nice walk, but the signage and information boards are in very bad condition - some evidence of maintenance work going on, such as new boardwalk, but a lot more needs doing. My husband also did the trail on the north side (Sendero Chirincoco) which, apparently, was less muddy. We were told that the trail on the other side of the main road - Sendero Mirador - was closed.

We didn't stay here, but paid a day fee to hike the nature trails. Amazing wildlife! Many tropical birds, agoutis, peccarries, coatis, capuchin monkeys, and Jesus Christ lizards. A great place to spend a few hours exploring lowland forests!Arrive early (7 am) to beat the heat on the bird watching trail. Restroom and a small open air restaurant. Arrive early in the morning for the bird watching trail as there is little shade. $15 per person but well worth it to us. Lots of animals and no other people!

This is a review of the lodge. |We spent one night here, and also did the Night Hike and Flight of the Toucan zipline. It was all great. Our little 3 bedroom house was exceptionally clean. We were very comfortable there, and we saw a ton of wildlife right in our backyard, including coati and agouti. I was very worried about the lack of AC (especially after arrival on the South Pacific coast when I realized how hot and humid it was) but it was seriously okay. They have giant fans on the walls aimed at the beds. I slept with light pajamas and just the sheet, and actually woke up cold and pulled up the blanket. We used the kitchen to cook dinner and had no issues. (It was just a simple dinner of quesadillas so we didn’t need much equipment but they had everything we needed.). The pool was great and refreshing, and food at the restaurant was good. One thing to be aware of: the free breakfast is made to order, not a buffet, so it takes a while. Breakfast starts at 7:00 and our zipline was at 8:00, and they asked us to check out before the zipline since checkout is at 11 and it can sometimes take 3 hours on the zips. So, we had a lot to do before 8:00, and the slow breakfast service made it tricky. Breakfast took nearly an hour (I went back to pack up our house while waiting for the food). We made it to the zipline with just a minute to spare. This isn’t a criticism of the breakfast service - it’s typical for Costa Rica and the food was delicious. But it’s something to be aware of if doing the morning zipline. Plan to be at breakfast at 7:00, and be totally ready to go. Overall, though, it was great and we really enjoyed our stay. Would definitely...

I came to Costa Rica with a few friends and a goal to see frogs. The end of our trip rolled by and we hadn't seen any frogs yet. We had seen monkeys, sloths, birds, and everything but frogs. So in frantic desperation I searched for a night walk near Uvita where we could see the red eyed tree frog. What I found was this lodge and their night walk. Let me tell you IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! We spent the night searching with Jorje for animals in the dark while he told us facts about what we were seeing. I learned so much, I saw so much, and I had so much fun. At the end of the walk, after we were all very tired, Jorje brought us back to the kitchen and gave us smoothies he had prepared in advance! Talk about a way to end the night! Some highlights of the animals we saw was the Ant Eater hiding in a tree, the Kinkajou sleeping peacefully on a branch, the sloths looking at Jorje making his whistle, and the various different types of tree frogs we found including not one BUT TWO red eyed tree frogs. This was a phenomenal experience and if I ever find myself back in this part of the world will do it again and explore the other tours they have to offer. 10/10, best deal you'll find today. I took many great photos on my camera and will try to update this review with them in the coming months, but if I don't get around to that just know how amazing...
