Please read to the end before renting there! I spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica. Totally loved my trip and experience minus the 24hrs I spent at Las Avellanas Villas. I had rented the place for 6 nights, stayed only one. ||||The first thing I noticed when I checked in the villa was the degree of dirtiness of the place. Many little things caught my attention such as a pile of dust/leafs/hair left in the middle of the living room, dirty windows, dusty kitchen counter, dead cricket in the shower... But the major thing was the dried out diarrhea on the toilet seat. ||||Not the best thing to come to when your on vacantions, although I can deal with a dirty place. What made me leave this place in a hurry was the insect infestation. There were ants and ant nests all over the villa. Small and wood ants all over the furnitures, floor and walls, including toilet paper, toilet, kitchen appliances...Giant grasshoppers and lezards have also been seen in the villa and the owner advised me to shake the pillows before going to be in case a scorpion was hidding in the pillow case. ||||The owners streched the fact that insects are everywhere and I would have the same issue in any other hotel.I quickly came to the opposite conclusion after asking many people staying in the same area who had not seen any of these species inside their rooms or villas.||||Other small facts that everyone thinking about renting there should know: the beach is a 20 min walk away from the villas, A/C is not included in the price ($10 extra per night), BBQ is rusty and unserviceable, the villas are in the middle of no where and there is no lights on the street. It is really dark and dangerous to walk after darkness. ||||Final point, the owners are antipathetic, not open to accomodations and almost rude. Run...
Read moreWe had a wonderful time at the villas! We stayed in Tamarindo for a couple days and than headed to Playa Avellanas. It was a nice drive and we really enjoyed site seeing around the area. We rented a side by side ATV and had alot of fun! It only took around 20 minutes to get to the villas and it wasn't a bad ride at all! The villas were very beautiful and clean! We had a fully equipped bungalow with a cute little kitchen and a breakfast bar, a cozy little living area, nice size bathroom, and a huge bedroom with ac!! Which felt amazing! We really enjoyed waking up to the sound of birds and monkey's and having coffee on the patio in the hammock's.. We had an iguana on top of our villa that would come down and sun every morning ,which loved fruits and veggies! || Isabella was a great host, she was very pleasant and helpful! She had a great vibe and made us feel very welcomed. Thank you for having us! Playa Avellanas has amazing beaches with white sand and very relaxing!! We really enjoyed Lola's on the beach with great mojitos and pizza! The sunsets were amazing too! I would also recommend the snow cones from the little stand out on the beach! YUM!! Blu was another place with great food! You've gotta try the raw oysters and cream brulee. Great atmosphere and staff! Thanks all for the great hospitality!! After all we had a great time at the villas and plan to return! Thank you Isabella! The chocolates were...
Read moreThis place falls way below expectations set by the posted photos, posted description, and the review in Lonely Planet. Overall the place in appearance was far below the beautiful photos and the detailed reservation information. The property is a reclaimed farm field with landscaping is far from attractive or quaint. The placement of the Villas does not add the the situation as they are all next to each other and in a row. It would have helped to spread them out and have trees between them. Inside the villas was another shock. The main bed we saw had several large brown stains on the white comforter (and no they were not sand stains). Then the couch or sitting place was nothing more than a wooden box with fabric on top. Very uncomfortable and not a place to sit for any amount of time. Overall the interiors looked much more worn and unattractive than the photos. We were also looking forward to a nice tree-lined walk to the beach. Unfortunately the dry season (not mentioned during reservation) meant that we had the pleasure of walking along a dusty road. Overall it was way below the expectations set by your website and...
