Came here for a few days at the end of a 3 place trip to Costa Rica. The place itself has a lovely location - on a hill some 200m from the beach which is home to a brilliant turtle hatchery. The garden is superb with lovely trees and plants around a beautiful pool. The rooms are very well put together. Most of the facilities work okay, since they are a bit old - like the sink takes some time to empty, the air conditioning is noisy (vibrates) and the hairdryer is not in its holder, but they are small things. The bed is very comfortable, air conditioner works and shower is wonderful. It is a long way from any shops so, you effectively need to breakfast there, but there are some other places to eat lunch and dinner nearby. The breakfast has good choice of set meals but is expensive with a minimum of $5, and most being $8-10 per person. Dinner is good quality food and there is similarly good choice, but you also pay for it with most starters around $10-14 and main dishes being $15-$20 plus beers @$3.50-4.50 for 33cl. and wine @$30+ per bottle except for house wine @$25. Our main meal came to $77 for 2. The cost of the room was around $93 per night. The garden and 5he pool are the highlights - and the birds to have breakfast with - hummingbirds just a few metres...

This place felt like home.

For our first trip to Costa Rica, we are so grateful to have picked Guacamaya Lodge for our stay. The venue is tranquil, beautiful—and, as a testament to how lovely it is—full of welcoming guests who come back to vacation here year after year. The food and drinks at the restaurant were remarkable, and we had the pleasure of enjoying them in the most stunning outdoor space, complete with a gorgeous, lush garden, the cheerful sounds of tropical wildlife, and the serenity of big, beautiful ocean waves crashing on the beach a 5-minute walk away. When we decided to spend time at the beach, we often had the spot to ourselves. With all of that said, the one element that made it feel instantly like home were all the people who work at Guacamaya Lodge. The owners and staff seemed to know all the guests and local patrons really well and had great insight and recommendations on activities to do in both the local area and throughout the region. We loved all the time we were able to spend with staff members Yanan, Emmanuel, and Ana. We had so much fun and can’t wait to go back next year!

For those of you who are looking for a relaxing, cozy, beach-side resort, we cannot recommend Guacamaya...

Highly recommended! My wife and I stayed 3 nights in February 2025. Playa Junquillal is our favorite Guanacaste beaches because it is low key, never too busy, and the beaches are clean and wide and accessible. The Swiss owners at Guacamaya Lodge have been there 30 years and are the most fabulous hosts. They love what they have built and they should. The property, gardens and grounds are immaculate. Howler monkeys and amazing birds everywhere. The pool is clean and refreshing and the tennis court is really nice. We stayed in a King cabin that was clean, quiet and comfortable. Air conditioning worked perfectly. The staff was friendly and very helpful and seemed to enjoy working there. The restaurant has a wide ranging menu of Costa Rica classic dishes and European options. All of the food was excellent! The chef runs creative daily specials with fresh local fish. The plato tipico for breakfast or casado for lunch or dinner are always solid options. The bar has extensive options. The employees were super friendly and helpful and the service was outstanding. We will definitely be going back and highly recommend Guacamaya Lodge!
