Hotel Tamaris — Hotel in Grad Vis

Upon arriving, the receptionist was nice and check-in was easy. They don't have computer systems that take a while to get you checked in. She checked her piece of paper for our name and handed us the keys. |She also took our passports and said we could pick them up later (she needed to photocopy them). I wasn't completely comfortable with leaving my passport, but I picked it up later and it was fine. ||When we went upstairs and looked at the room numbers, I noticed right away it didn't have a sea view (which is what I paid for on booking.com). So I went back down and she gave me keys to a room with a beautiful sea view. ||This hotel is old. The floors make noise with every step, you hear all the foot traffic outside and people talking, you can hear people walking in other rooms. You will also most likely get woken up by the tower bell across the water at 6am. :) ||No rooms have double beds. Only two twin beds next to each other. The mattresses are thin and aren't super high-quality, but they do the job. I would say it's about a two star hotel if it were in the US. But consider where you are staying. They have a very old infrastructure and it's an island in the middle of the sea. :) Just relax, enjoy the island life and don't be too picky. ||It's very convenient to the ferry port. Only about a 5 minute walk. You're also next to several bank atms and tourist shops. ||So I would suggest staying here if you get a sea view or only want the short walking distance to the ferry port.||I can't comment on the breakfast, because we ate outside the hotel. ||Enjoy your time in Vis! I highly suggest the 6-hour "Around the Island" tour with Visrent.||Oh and weather in September...

Problems began when arrived off car ferry. Couldn't even pull up to unload luggage. Parked illegally We drug our suitcases blocks to the hotel. They did help us carry them upstairs. No lift. Directed us to parking across town. |They did compensate us with a waterfront room at no extra cost. Nice view but no balcony. |On return from trip to beach discovered bugs in the room. Not fun. |Breakfast was ok but not available til|9 and then had to wait while they prepared it. No buffet, etc.|Instead of just getting the info off our passports as every other hotel we stayed in Croatia did, they held them hostage until we paid...

The seating outside the front of the hotel provides a great place to watch the world go by and is set in the middle of the yacht harbour , it is a busy location.|| The food was excellent and after a local salad I tried the grilled squid. It was beautifully cooked and presented , highly recommended .|| The vino Plavac was very acceptable and complimented the fish dish.||Bill for two 348 Kuna , very good value . The service was very friendly and helpful in terms of recommending the local best sweets, wines etc.|| Defiantly worth a visit , you wont be...
