An exceptional hotel on a most interesting island. Worth a detour, as they say in the Michelin Guide. The Californian owner bought this old building and renovated it in 2020 to a high standard of minimalistic and artistic excellence. Her attention to detail is incredible: each bedroom has a blue tooth speaker, angle-poise bedside lamps, art of the walls, wonderful bedding, terraces and more. It's a haven of good taste. The building is ancient, probably from the Venetian Empire period, and the previous owners ran it as a hostel -- so lots of post WW2 drywalls had to be ripped off the ancient walls and replaced with a mix of flat white walls and original stone sections. Best thing about this unique hotel is that you feel like you're visiting a friend who's just moved into an incredible house in the Hollywood Hills, but less than a minutes walk away is the Adriatic Sea. It has the best of both worlds. The owner and her colleagues are exceptionally welcoming. If I was on a yacht I'd be booking in for three nights for some respite from the sea. It's the sort of place you could organise a holiday around. The owner has a driver in Split who can take guests from the airport, onto the ferry and to the beautiful isle of Vis -- and this is a good option as the port of Split is a complicated mess that I wouldn't recommend to anyone who hasn't experienced bus stations in India or other oriental locations. The owner describes it as "a full service luxury boutique hotel" with "nine large rooms ... The downstairs lounge opens onto a square where there is seating and shade umbrellas where they serve cocktails in the evening." I love their approach to procurement: everything local. We ate the most delicious breakfast ever, with bread, jam and fruit from the area. Even though the owner is from the USA she seems fully integrated into the community. Future plans include opening a vegan restaurant.

My experience at the Pomâlo Inn has been absolute perfection. Everything you need, and nothing you don’t. Elegant, simple, and authentic. Reading the prior reviews, I don’t understand what happened, Loulou who owns the place has been beyond accommodating. Even to the point of checking in and bringing me tea when she heard I was under the weather. I’m assuming she was her lovely self with them and rolled out the red carpet for their wedding day, and they took advantage of her kindness, but who knows. The quarters are lovely, clean, with a touch of luxury (wonderful sheets and towels) and just the right number of modern touches (AC, Bluetooth speaker) so that the whole space still remains true to the Vis spirit. A yummy and simple breakfast is offered each morning either downstairs or in your room. The local staff are also very kind and helpful. Special shout out for Artemis the poodle, such a cutie. Highly recommend. Will be back!

Incredible. From the warm welcome to the comfy and beautifully decorated accommodations to the amazing vibes and Lou Lou, the host with all the insider secrets who feels more like a long lost friend than a gal you just met... it's the kind of place that I think those who are meant to be there, go. Just magic and we hope to return.

Nice enough rooms and good breakfast banana muffins but the price point feels wrong (expensive) given there are no facilities on site - also when we were there there was no WiFi for the first few days.

We rented the whole hotel bar the penthouse for our wedding. The owner was very generous in offering the penthouse (as was too dark in the brides room) for the girls to get ready but later, despite no initial (or any other) mention that she would, tried to charge us for this and for our photographer taking photos in the hotel. The subsequent mention of of the existence of charges and the quantum that the owner wanted was ripe for negotiation but owner refused. And did so multiple times. When we said that she couldn’t subsequently invent charges her character changed in a way that I’ve never seen in an another person and one that can’t be appropriate for someone who runs a people facing business. The owner was also now asking for a €3,000 deposit which had been clearly mentioned when we booked but was not asked for on check in or prior to these additional costs being construed. Given, to me, that it was clear she was only suddenly asking for this to try and extort the unreasonable money she wanted to charge us for photos and getting ready we said that we weren’t willing to make a deposit.

An initially unpleasant sequence of events led to the owner asking us to leave and then when we refused, pointing out that we had paid in full (for the hotel months before) turning up music in the hotel (to maximum) so loud that no one could sleep, calling in a local enforcer (to intimidate us) and then entering (unauthorised) into my room and repeatedly shouting (lots of swear words as well as other random insults such as ‘sociopath’, ‘tiny penis’ etc) at me from less than a centimetre, spitting at me, throwing our things around and then calling the police. The police immediately told her to turn off the music and then after hearing from both sides told her to calm down and to let us go to sleep - there was no suggestion that we should leave. The enforcer then left, respecting the word of the police. Sadly this only strengthened the owners resolve and she took to revving a motorbike outside our room as loud as possible. When this didn’t succeed she started banging pots and pans outside of rooms. This banging went on for hours despite people being ill, pregnant and elderly in the rooms to the extent that everyone left in the middle of the night.

This post could be much longer but there should be sufficient colour here for a prospective visitor. And yes if don’t believe me then we have videos of everything, including the spitting, with timestamps...

You may have seen Pomalo Inn profiled in Vogue, Marie Clare and Harper's Bazar - but let me tell you these glowing articles don't do justice to Pomalo Inn, the island of Vis or Lou Lou the owner. ||Pomalo Inn is pure magic.||That allusive perfect place, perfect moment, incredible staff and "best bed in Croatia". The highlight of our extensive Croatian holiday.||From start to finish this little inn that can wowed us in big ways and its thoughtful intuitive little details. Having had the great fortune of staying at some of the best resorts in the world we were charmed and blown away by the service, care and love that comes from Lou Lou who created this well appointed slice of heaven.||Before we arrived, Lou Lou helped to curate not only the most memorable 3 days and nights anyone could hope for, but with her natural generosity, sparkle, warmth, and eye for quality she truly help me elevate our entire first trip to Croatia. Not just our time in Vis. From tips to other hotels, when to walk Dubrovnik's walls, to must see schools of design, most stunning church top in Croatia, to where to eat and find the most authentic winery on the way to Korcula.|Emails, what's up and texts |Lou Lou's enthusiasm for Vis and life is contagious. To say Lou Lou was generous with her knowledge, experience and with her time is an understatement. ||I knew we were in for a treat at Pomalo Inn. Expectations were high before arriving and they were blown out of the water. Lou Lou and her fabulous staff going above and beyond every hour of our stay and even continued upon our leaving when Lou Lou herself walked over to the post office postcards to our daughter we had left behind to ensure they got into the mail.||Warning, you will fall deeply madly in love with Vis and be so grateful that you get to experience this true hidden gem in all of its glory staying at Pomalo Inn. No one will help you plan a better stay in Vis. You could not find yourself in better hands than with Lou Lou and her team at Pomalo. We can't wait to...

Located far away in the Adriatic Sea, coming to shore on the island Vis is like going back in time. This is the most calm island of the Dalmatians. There is such a beauty, history, authenticity, charm and timelessness to this place. It's like time stood still on this island. The hotel is very original and true to the spirit of the island but infused with luxury and comfort. It is not glitzy and glammy in a shiny way, but elegant and comfortable in an understated way by using the best products and materials. The rooms have everything you need, highest quality of textiles and it doesn't have anything you don't need. Everything is spotless. This place is designed with respect and understanding of the history and values of the island and catering to those who are looking for service and quality of a 5-star hotel. ||Upon arrival (one-minute walk from the ferry) everything is taken care of and you are greeted by the most wonderful staff (including a gorgeous and charming dog). There are so many fun details and carefully curated artpieces. Everything is so well thought out, that the atmosphere immediately makes you calm and relaxed.||Loulou is very helpful in making the most out of your stay on the island Vis and a very fun person to have a chat with, she is so resourceful and passionate about what she does. The best coffee and breakfast on the island is to be found right here. All the staff members are extremely friendly and have interesting stories to tell. I can't explain the added value this luxury stay will give to visiting Vis.||The place is located in the middle of town, right next to the ocean. At night it's quiet and you can see all the stars. Once you come back at night, the whole terrace is lit up with candles and you are welcome to enjoy a late night drink at the idyllic square. The beds and pillows are just perfect and make sure you get a good night sleep.||Me and my partner had an unforgettable stay and looking forward a lot to...
