The hotel is in a small village about 1.25 hours from Pula airport. The roads are very bendy. The village isn’t very touristy so there’s not much to do.|The hotel itself is very clean. It is built into a mountain so the street side has 3 floors and the sea side has 8 floors. Lovely views over the bay. There is a walkway all the way to Opatija and rejika which has lovely scenery around the bay but not much else. Opatija took us 1.5 hours to walk there. There are buses which run hourly though.|The rooms are a little dated but clean and pleasant. There is a fridge with a mini bar of drinks inside. The bathroom has a shower above the bath but there was lots of hot water. The toilet had seen better days but worked. Other people mentioned that the street view rooms are very noisy as the road is a busy one. We had a sea view which was peaceful.|The outdoor pool was very cold and there were not many sun beds available although the weather wasn’t too good so it didn’t matter.|The indoor pool was lovely and the spa and sauna were very good. Massage was 55 euros which is a reasonable price.|There is a bar near the reception. Drinks were about one euro more expensive than the local bar, so not too bad. |Breakfast is good, plenty of choices and staff pleasant. |Dinner was not good the first couple of nights, but the rest of our stay we had really good food. The restaurant manager Eda was really lovely and made sure we were happy with the food.||All in all we had a relaxing time but would prefer a bit more entertainment, maybe some music after dinner in the lounge area?||Would also have liked a walk in shower.||Would say that the area is very mountainous so there are steps everywhere. Perhaps not the best place for people with mobility issues, although obviously there are no issues in the...
Read moreAlmost at the end of the two-week stay in this hotel. We have booked a suite with half board included. The selection of food (breakfast-dinner) is good, although a little more variety wouldn't hurt. The two places you can eat in the hotel - beach bar Taverna and lobby bar Laurus - also offer very decent meals and they were our main choice for lunch. All the meals we had there were skilfully prepared from fresh and quality ingredients. Service is generally very good, at times even excellent, and majority of the staff are doing their best to make guests feel comfortable. Cleanliness is on a very high level throughout the hotel which is extremely important to us. Our suite is just fantastic - lots of sunlight, great beds, good bathrooms, enough space for all our stuff. The terrace, however, is the jewel of this room, with the panorama of the Bay of Kvarner being simply stunning at any time of day or night and during any weather. Both pools have sea water with the inner being larger and better for swimming. Even though the official website doesn't say, they have a towel service which is very handy. The hotel beach is rather small and gets easily crowded with sundecks and sunshades. The sea is very clean and ideal for swimmers. The hotel itself is functional with lots of ammenities, and is perfectly situated among the pines and other vegetation, above the famous Promenade. We particulary enjoyed peace and quiet during our stay, without the usual hustle of some more prominent destinations, for example Opatija. All in all, it is fair to say that we have had a great summer holiday in Excelsior and we will seriously consider it for our...
Read moreGreat location, very close to the ocean and the town centre. The hotel itself and the rooms feel a bit outdated, but overall satisfying.
The food breakfast and dinner buffet was very good. Especially at dinner they served delicious turkey roast, beef steaks, suckling pick, mussels, etc. - kudos to the chefs - surprisingly good food and always a very satisfying variety.
The staff was always professional and kind. Also the kids club was great too and the little ones enjoyed it a lot - shout-out to the staff there for their patience and involvement.
The parking situation isn’t great and hotel parking is too expensive. But to be fair, the reception pointed out that there is fee parking across the street and further up the hill - on top of the hill there is a huge parking lot with enough free spaces (5-10 minute walk from the hotel).
The WiFi was soso - enough for email and YouTube but sometimes unreliable at some spots in the hotel.
The only thing that I can really criticise are the beverage prices during dinner. Four Euros for a 0.25 litre soft drink and the same for 0.5 litre water is a rip off, 4.70 Euros for half a litre draft beer isn’t great either when I can walk five minutes to the next supermarket and get the same for 1.29 Euros - this is a problem in many European countries though and not specific to this hotel.
I would appreciate if they would serve at least some free water / lemon water for example.
Overall we had a great time there and we’d...
