I would like to clarify that the evaluation is based on what the hotel claims to offer, specifically a 5-star "luxury hotel." It should also be noted that we booked the most beautiful suite in the hotel for a week.
The Room 4/5 No smart TV. The automatic locking system of the front door is randomly noisy, especially at night. Well arranged, cozy, comfortable bed, a beautiful sea-view terrace (but also two large abandoned buildings).
Hotel Service (including reception, housekeeping) 1/5 No valet service (which isn’t advertised anyway, and the parking is next to the hotel, so it's not a problem in itself). No porters. A rather cold welcome upon arrival: you are handed a piece of paper (in the wrong language for us) and asked to read it to understand how the hotel services work. Then you receive your room key and are left to manage on your own. No tour of the hotel or escort to the room. Consequently, you may struggle to use the jacuzzi or towel dryers that never turned on; if you have questions, you must call or go to the reception yourself. I want to emphasize that despite all the emails and papers we receive, including one handed to us upon arrival stating in bold, "the hotel wishes you the warmest welcome," a welcome is something you experience, not something written. Regarding housekeeping, the room is cleaned daily, but the quality can be lacking: we had to request that they clean up the quantity of hair on the bathroom floor, which was not addressed, as well as dead insects on the terrace, some of which remained for the entire week. We were told the floor is "damaged" without anyone coming up to verify, especially the housekeeper.
The Restaurant 5/5 Cuisine 4/5 as it was too salty for our taste. However, the menu changes every evening with a generous three-course hot meal system. Top-notch service, professional servers, attentive and very friendly. Despite our limited English, we managed to have humorous exchanges, which was very nice.
Facilities 4/5 Overall, the hotel is beautiful, with nice common areas and a lovely indoor/outdoor pool area with a jacuzzi. Well arranged without being a large hotel; you generally feel comfortable.
The Spa/Massage 2/5 Big issue upon arrival. Although we had booked a full week of massages two months in advance and received confirmation, on the first day at the time of our first massage, we were turned away due to staff shortages, without prior notice. Additionally, at the spa reception, we were informed that no massages could be guaranteed for the week that was planned and confirmed two months in advance... a real disappointment. In the end, the reception was quite responsive, apparently from the manager's manager, finding solutions and offering us two massages (which we greatly appreciated), but this doesn’t erase the disappointment of the first day. Furthermore, the schedule was slightly modified for certain times by the spa reception. The massages are beneficial, but technically, there are better options available. For example, for the foot massage, half the time is spent massaging the leg instead of focusing on the foot, despite there being a separate leg massage. The reception may seem hurried – they do not ask about your preferred pressure for the massage or the scent of the oil you want. Don’t expect a moment of relaxation with a detox tea, as once the treatment is finished, you have to leave.
Hotel Location 3/5 I think this depends a lot on the season. Having visited in mid-October, many activities were closed except for a few restaurants nearby. The hotel is in a very quiet, even remote area facing a port, ideal for avoiding noise disturbances in the evening. It is located 15 minutes from the city of Krk by car and 45 minutes from Rijeka, which is quite convenient for finding...
Read moreGuys, I have been in many many places and not just being bitter here! Nice pools and nice expensively done hotel. However, unbelievably awful service in the restaurant…and everywhere in the hotel and malinska, but on top of that the food is bad too. Pasta - bad, seafood all in the same sauce and don’t be tricked by various names, plus all over cooked 🥲. Pools service only exists when the sun is shining…otherwise no one there, no one! Rude such rude waiters, it’s august and end of the season and feels like they have had enough of you and they are not shy to show it! We asked for GF pasta because we knew they serve it, the guy arrived 1h later with all dishes asking if we still want the pasta as chef finally can make it! (this is just a small example). They don’t even need tips, my guess is they know they don’t really work for the tip (which might be a plus). Malinska is an old tourist place with little to nothing to do. Go to Dubrovnik! As touristic and as expensive, but at least you’ve heard about it…And all this for 1700gbp for 5 nights. Everything nearly everything is better value than this! Unless you are Croatia bound!!!! Security is close to none so don’t be surprised if someone will get your key copied by just saying it’s their room…no one knows, records or remembers. Cherry on the top is a scorpion in the room but don’t stress if they bite you won’t have a fever as normal - as quoted to us by reception. On the plus side (yes there is one). Public beach is not that bad after you cross the road…and a car park :) To Hotel Riva - I am so sorry but it’s not 5 stars. Design only is not a hotel! It’s not service and it’s not rest…thanks either way! Wr won’t be back...
Read moreThe primary role of any hotel let alone a 5-star luxury hotel is to keep their guests and their possessions safe. In the case of Luxury Hotel Riva this they had comprehensively failed in that task.|Our 2 teenage sons were asleep in their room and the night porter/security were duped by 2 drunken women that their husband was in our son’s room and the night security took them up to our son’s room and opened the room door for the 2 women to go on in. This was all done without checking if the 2 women knew the ID of the people that were registered in our son’s room or even checking with us who was in the main billing room for our son’s room. Having got into the room they came out having taken the room key from the wall slot and then proceeded to return to the room staying in the room for 10 minutes to rob my sons of their various valuables and credit cards.|When I reported this story to the police at the police station, the first police officer commented that he had been working in Krk for a long time and this was the first time he had heard of such a case.|It is easy to blame the hapless night porter for such a serious lapse of security if it wasn’t for the fact that he clearly lacked any training as in a meeting with the owners of the hotel after the event it was clear that basic identification of people requesting to be let into rooms without a key was something they still had to...
