We booked an apartment for 9 nights and payed 300€ per night. 4 person and a dog. No breakfast.
The apartment was spacious with a very large terrace and two bathrooms. A kitchenette with appliances. One room with double bed. One room with a bunk bed and a fold out couch. But! For 300€ per night we expect it to be at a higher standard. The apartment looked like it came straight out of the 80's. Light fixtures from the cheap section of a DIY store. An electric boiler hanging above your head in the shower. One power outlet in the bedroom that only works when the main light is on. Very comfortable when you both want to charge your smartphone on your nightstand during the night. The bunk beds had foam that are used to ship large items instead of mattresses. The terrace roof had multiple leaks which made sitting under it during rain very unpleasant. The terrace is very large but shared with one other apartment. There's no divisions between them. Our dog kept going to the neighbors whenever they were outside, but they liked it.
The main areas are very beautiful and well maintained. Lots of things to do like the gaming room, swimming pool, bar.... the entertainment is especially great for younger kids. You can rent little electric cars for them to drive around the patio. There's a luna park next to the bar. Keep an eye on the Cafe right beside the hotel. It's open later than the hotel bar and has a great atmosphere and sometimes live music.
I don't know if it's a cultural issue but some of the staff members are cold, uninterested, unfriendly and on the edge of rude. I don't give a flying duck what their problem is, not for 300€ per night. If you don't like your job than quit. If you don't like tourists than don't work in a hotel. I don't expect they kiss my feet, but for this amount of money I'd like a simple welcome, a smile, please, thank you and a sincere good bye. Luckily not all staff members were like that, but only one, in the restaurant, was really professional to the standard one might expect.
The supermarket. The assortment is amended with the restaurant in mind. If you like to prepare some home meals then drive to the nearby Plodine. Lots of drinks to find here, also cooled. Handy to buy a drink to savor at the pool or sea side. Be prepared to get ignored and feel unwelcome by the employees here.
The restaurant is good. Very tasty and large pizza. The other dishes are also good but the pasta is sized for a toddler. The waiters are friendly.
Nearby is a beach with a bar and chair rental. You can rent SUP boards, canoes and pedal boats. There's also an inflatable adventure park in the water.
You can rent boats in front of the hotel. We rented one that almost fumigated us. I almost lost the throttle handle because it was broken and came loose. The engine kept hopping out of the water, over which when we returned the rental guy got mad. He really got angry. When I replied that I didn't know what to do about it he shouted at me that I should use common sense. I was like right, I'm a mechanic. Give me some wrenches and I'll start fixing the thing. Look if I would know anything about boat engines I'd probably have brought my own boat. I'm just here to rent one. Don't get mad at me because your stuff doesn't work properly.
EV's aren't common in Croatia. Luckily the hotel has four 11kW chargers which work very good. One thing to keep in mind. If you go on a day trip and come back in the evening, don't count on recharging your car at night if you want to use it the next day. Same people with fossil cars kept parking their cars on the EV spots from the early evening till morning. They should really do something about that.
Overall we had a great stay, but I'm pretty sure this was a one time visit. The cons outweigh the pros. Especially for 300€ per night. On our way back home we stayed a night at the Holiday Inn, The Niu Nurnberg. We payed 122€ per night. Almost a third for a hotel that is in a totally different league when it comes to...
Read moreA place of hell. We stayed in a apartment this hotel on June 10 and find that there is alsolutely no electricity in the room. Actually we phoned the hotel at 9 p.m. that evening just to inform them of our late check-in around mid-night. The receptioin did not mention to us even she knew there will be a cut in the electricity that night. When we checked in to know such fact, we have no other choice but to stay in that hotel. The staff told us that it was due to some maintenance tasks of their own hotel. We asked for torches or candles but the staff could not help with quite unkeen altitude. We did our cleaning in dark and slept. The next morning, we went to the front counter to lodge a complaint and request for compansation. After some negotiation, the humble lady assistant manager understood the problem and agreed to waive the full room charge. When we are going to leave, she went back to take a phone call and told us that the Manager was very angry and demand us to pay the full room charge. Thus we requested to talk to the Manager directly. We were told to wait to 3 minutes but the Manager did not until 15 minutes later. It was then the most terrible matters happened. The rude middle aged female Manger told us that as we had slept that night and use their water and sheets, we have to pay full room charge. She even lied to us that they did not know about the electricity cut before we arrive, and that the electricity cut was not caused by the hotel. In a very unpolite manner, she demand us to pay the full room charge or else they would call the police. As we do not want to lose our time for the rest of our journey, we just paid and left the hell. The hotel was absolutely not up to the international standard in the following areas: The hotel should not offer rooms to customers should there be any maintenace which will cause electricity cut. The hotel should actively inform the customers, by email or phone, as soon as possible when they know there is an electricity cut, so that customers can make alternative plan. The hotel staff is not keen enough to help when the problem happened. The hotel refused to provide their compansation which is already offered by their staff. The unwillingness of the Manager to accept their own fault, and be responsible to it. The rudeness and uncivil altitude of the Manager with alsolutely no room to negotiable (just threat to call police). The obvious and unwise lies made up by the Manager to fool the...
Read moreChecked in Sunday 25th June, rumours of an imminent heatwave, happy days... Top Tip 1... Get a Taxi to the nearest supermarket (Konzum) 140 Kuna return & the driver waited.. do you main shop, stock up on all the heavy stuff & use the on site one for day to day bits.. Beach immediately next to the hotel isn't great, as it's in a bay it has cloudy water, not the normal crystal clear water we are accustomed to in Croatia. Top tip 2.. DO NOT hire a Boat from the Hotel. 1st one looked like a rowing boat with a tea towel as an awning over it, went for option 2. Small cabin boat with an 8hp engine (couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding). After setting off, 40 mins later we arrived at out 1st snorkeling destination. Anchors away I cried as it slipped off into the beautiful clear water, at which point I thought the kids would swan dive off the bow, they didn't.. The next 15 mins they say debating/arguing over how deep it actually was & if 'The Meg' had frequented these waters (much to the amusement of the scorched naturists watching on from the rocks). We set a new course for a uninhibited island. Half hour later of sputtering & popping (the 8hp engine not me) we arrived, anchor away again.. I rolled over the side & had a mooch about.. quickly realising that the Wife hadn't realised the anchor had now left it's fixed position & she was drifting out to sea.. It was also at this point that I realised you can't climb back on the boat unless you are a shaolin monk or gymnast, neither of which am I!! I lashed a rope & used it as leverage to haul my now exhausted body out the water. If you want to potter about & not go in the water, this boat is ok, if you want to snorkel or swim as the boat man advises, upgrade to their speedboat as the first 2 options are not suitable. The Hotel itself is ok, just ok.. We booked the superior room with 2 bedrooms, bathrooms are ok with good showers.. Kitchen doesn't have a washing machine or cooker, just a hob.. just aswell I'm a dab hand at '2 pot dishes'.. Would we come here again, no... It was a last minute jobby so didn't...
