Villa marija motovun||||We felt like a King and Queen with this family’s hospitality!||||Good communication for parking info and we had booked the truffle tour and meal with them. The time of the truffle hunt changed a couple of times due to the weather prediction so it may be best to be able to be flexible. We were coming from Rovinj so we were not far, and the time didn’t matter to us. ||||The lower parking tries to wave you in ,but pull up and tell them you are with Villa Marija. They give you a pass and they call the villa for you. In the meantime you find the parking lot way up the hill “behind the cemetery” —sharp right at one of the bends in the road. There was not a space in the gravel lot. We were there about 5 min trying to figure out what we were going to do, and the Father who doesn’t speak English, arrived and we followed him up the road a bit and literally parked on the road until later. The car was fine and we moved it after the hunt when they were notified that spaces came available. ||||He put our luggage in his car and then he drove up the very narrow and winding and bumpy one way stone street right to their door. The Mother,Lorena, and the sons were there to greet us warmly. They helped us with the luggage upstairs. We had one of the Mountain View rooms. Wow!! The bedroom and bathroom are both large with a very large terrace. Breathtaking view! Even in the rain! ||||The room and bathroom as well as the whole house is updated and sparking clean and so new looking, that it’s hard to believe it’s a 300 year old farmhouse! It was quiet and we could not hear the people next door. ||||The rain started early unfortunately so the son, Michael, asked if we still wanted to go truffle hunting. We said sure. He had high rubber boots for us and we had umbrellas, raincoats and ponchos. The umbrellas in the woods were not as handy as the other in the pouring rain and brush. ||||So we truffle hunted 1 -3 Pm in the pouring rain with 3 wonderful dogs. Didn’t find too many truffles as the rain probably messed up the scents some, but the experience was priceless! Tromping through the woods about 15 min from the house, watching the dogs sniff and bound around, and having this unique experience was top notch. Michael goes truffle hunting about twice a day to supply the family truffle business. I need not have worried that we would still have truffles for lunch!||||Since it was raining, we had our truffle lunch inside in our own little private dining room instead of the gorgeous garden table with view outside. But the dining room felt so cozy and quaint we did not mind at all. Little did we know the feast that we had ahead of us! Truly it was a feast for royalty! Lorena used to run a restaurant — the first “quick food” restaurant years ago in Motovun and she is an exceptional cook!||||Laren, one of the 3 sons, was our server for the whole meal and we really enjoyed talking with him as well. He would diligently bring up each dish upstairs. We started with our choice of any or all or more of white wine, red wine, and 2 local liqueurs. Loved the one his uncle made I think! The olive oil made by his aunt was fabulous with breads. We had three appetizers brought at once. Mozzarella and fresh tomato sliced salad, toasted bread with a cream cheese and truffle spread on top, and different truffle cheese sliced. Wow! We knew we were in for some meal! Then fresh salads. Then we had a choice of truffles and eggs or truffles and pasta. We chose the pasta. So then a huge vat literally of truffle pasta arrives steaming hot! Beautiful and so delicious. Not the touristy harsh truffle oil taste, but the real way of cooking the truffles with a mild flavor and herbs perfectly blended! We never thought we could make a dent in it. We finished it! There were so many sliced truffles in he pasta, that it was amazing. No skimpy truffles here! To top off this royal feast was a layered chocolate cake that we could grate a truffle||On top! The flavors were fabulous together. Who knew?! We had eaten from about 3:15-5 pm. No need to eat dinner that night for sure! So glad we did not miss this amazing experience!!||||So everyone else has to walk up the very steep hill to get to the town, and we were Already in the town. Pretty special! We tried to walk off some of the meal in town. Enjoyed the walls which are free after 7 pm and I think before 9 am. But we paid the small amount at the info shop in the Square, and with the rain gone, the views were incredible! Shops and eateries just down the hill a bit from the accommodation. There is some uphill and downhill walking involved still!||||Breakfast again in the little dining room with the other guests by Lorena was a feast. Meats, cheeses and breads, cereals, juice. You could have eggs which we did. We||Tried to have breakfast||On the terrace but the yellow jackets got the best of us. Time of year for them I guess. I would not hesitate to recommend Villa Marija! The family makes you feel like family, and royalty at that! Not sure I’ve ever been waited on that much. Thank you for the wonderful...
Read moreWe are glad we stayed here for a visit to Motovun. ||Rooms,||We booked the two balcony rooms and Lorena wisely asked whether we would like to open the door in the balcony which connected our two rooms. Room two has a large bathroom with a washing machine which is very useful. There is even a clothes line in the balcony for hanging. There is also a bathtub in this bathroom. Room 1 has a standing shower. The rooms are very clean and we could enjoy a great view from the spacious balcony. We also had breakfast in the balcony at 7 euros each. Lorena also offered us scrambled eggs beside the croissants, bread, ham and cheese. We could also help ourselves to the cereals, fruits and yoghurt in the dining hall. Room 2 has its own kettle. There is a common kettle in the dining hall for sharing by room 1 and room 3. Both rooms 1 and 2 have double beds while room 3 has twin beds. There is an apartment in the ground floor suitable for three persons. The bed is very comfortable and the air-conditioner is great for hot Motovun.||Service||Lorena kindly offered us wine as welcome drinks. She also arranged truffle hunting with her son followed by a delicious truffle lunch in the outdoor dining area shaded by the grapes vine. Her price is very reasonable compared to others. She also arranged for her son to drive us to Plitvice Lakes (3.5 hours) with a stop at Rastoke for 200 euros.||Location||It is only a short walk to Konobo Mondo for dinner and a walk on the wall. It is free to walk the wall in the evening and early morning. I took an early morning walk and enjoyed walking the alleys and discovering the short cuts. There is also a kindergarten two doors away...
Read moreMy family of 4 adults stayed here 1 night. We had 1 day in motovun and I knew we wanted to do at least 1 bed a &breakfast. The views from the apartment we're breathtaking. My elderly father cannot walk very far and it was perfect since he could just sit on the balcony and look out. The host Loraina(spelling?) Was the most hospitable andd gracious host. My parents cannot stop talking about her heavenly homemade croissants! Add the breakfast to your room rate as it's well worth it.||The deluxe room also had a large bathroom with a bidet, washer machine, tub , and the room had a fridge.||We also had the single room which was adequate and beautiful and clean.||The men at the gates before you enter town instructed us to park behind the town cemetary lot and the host sent a driver down to pick us up and our bags. We left rest of our luggage over night in the lot and it was fine. The mountain town was perfect safe from riffraffs. We were all sad to leave next morning.||My only regret was not signing up for the hotels truffle hunt and truffle lunch. We had already made reservation with another outfit in town the one the hotel offered seemed better. A definite must do if you are in Motovun.||Other notes of our stay: reasonable price, great steady wifi, free parking, and hotel cash only.||I hope to...
