The location of this hotel could not be better. It is on top of the mountain in the center of the walled city. I understand that the rooms vary greatly in size and quality but ours was remarkable. It was large and looked like a room in a castle with relief art on all the walls and the ceiling. There was a chandelier and the bed had a canopy and curtains. We had a balcony with a courtyard view. The bathroom was nice. You should pay attention to the email they send the day of your arrival that explains the parking situation. We did not see it and, therefore, had a struggle with the parking. You park behind the church where the road to the top is blocked and call the hotel for the shuttle. The parking is discounted for hotel guests. We had trouble calling the hotel and the people in the little kiosk near the parking tried to help but it didn't work for them either. But they kindly persisted until they got someone and the shuttle was sent for us. The hotel is only steps from dining with an amazing view and from the few sights and activities in the walled part of the town. We completely enjoyed our stay and highly...
Read moreWe were with a large group of friends, more than 20 people all together. we stayed at the hotel for 3.5 days. Each room is different. Many are with the panoramic of garden view, I would definetly opted for a view. The place itself is so confined and cozy, that the atmosphere is truly unique. We had an educational program as well as dinners, lunches, etc. The hotel terrace with a garden is really beautiful. Erika is the hospitable hostess of the castle, who does her best to accommodate the needs while being very discreet at the same time. Mirko, the chef of the restaurant services did a very good job during the festive dinner we had at the restaurant. The service during the dinner was amazing. Domagoj joined us with a guitar, offering being with us and we had a live music for two unforgttable evenings. All in all, it was an unforgettable stay. The food was delicious, if you like truffles, they are always on the menu here. We loved our stay and would love to come back as soon as we get the chance. Thanks to the...
Read moreMy husband and I had a fabulous experience staying at the Hotel Kastel in Motovun in early October. We parked below in the church parking lot and were met by the very friendly driver who skillfully drove us to the top. When we arrived at the hotel desk, a young woman was dealing with another guest who was complaining vociferously about the lack of a view from his window. To her credit, she appeased the guest and by way of apologizing to us, booked us into a larger room with a view. We had arrived later in the evening but were still able to enjoy a wonderful meal with freshly shaved truffles on the outdoor patio, with lots of local wine and blankets.
Our two night, three day stay was wonderful! The hotel is graciously appointed, the breakfasts are delicious and plentiful, and the staff is lovely and responsive. Motovun is a magical place and served as a central point from which we explored the richness of the Istrian Peninsula, from Pula...
