Plitvički Ljeskovac is down a single track road off the main Plitvice highway. It is a tiny hamlet surrounded by beautiful beech forest. There is no through traffic, and the place feels truly rural and quiet. We liked it a lot.||Guest house Koncar is just a few simple rooms in a farmhouse. The rooms are clean, with en-suite shower and loo, recently decorated, and perfectly adequate. Breakfast was available, and was excellent - home made cheese and cured ham. No dinner though, so you need to picnic or drive 10min. We were touring by bikes, so this was a minor hassle for us. There is a nice place to picnic by the stream opposite the farm, where the owners have built a shaded bench. The host, Ana, was very friendly and tried to be helpful but does not speak English - we got by in my very limited Italian. We could speak to an English-speaking family member by phone, which helped.||You can easily walk 5K from the house to the back entrance of Plitvice lakes park, along a pretty lakeside track. You may be tempted to thereby dodge paying the entrance fee, but I would not recommend this - there are lots of 'rangers' around and we were stopped and asked to show tickets. So either buy tickets in advance as you drive past the main entrance to the park (best option? - I am not sure whether they sell tickets for the next day), or what we did is to go straight to some official looking person as we walked into the park proper and announced a need to buy tickets - they directed us to the ticket place and were only mildly pissed off. We felt very smug when accosted by the rangers as we walked back to the guesthouse in the evening - tickets all present and correct! You can walk from guesthouse down to closest bit of lake for a swim without...
Read moreFirst off, if you're looking for a place with nearby restaurants, maybe a nightclub or two, don't go here! It's a working farm, in the middle of the forest, with nothing else around. There are cattle, horses, a friendly cat, a dog named Lily, and a charming family that will host you. It's utterly delightful. The room we had was great and had everything we needed. We ate breakfast and dinner here both days, so there was no need to find a restaurant! The food was excellent, hearty fare. After a day walking in the park, it was excellent to come back to "our" place, to silence, and relax with a good meal. We chose to drive the exciting way to the park, which is a small, somewhat rain-damaged road, but it takes a bunch of time off the trip compared to the "Google way". Be aware, though, that meeting another car on that road could be really interesting; we didn't. Gojko told us this used to be the ONLY road, and even busses went that way. Glad I wasn't on...
