We left this hotel with mixed feelings. On one hand, a lot of things are great and we had a package deal for a great price. On the other hand, some things are not so great and can be better.
Plitvice Hotel is a charming building built in 1954, designed by a famous Croatian architect. It must have been state of the art back then. A lot of fifties details are still there: the staircases, hallway decoration, curved outdoor terraces and glass walls. We got a package deal: three nights in a superior room, breakfast, dinner and park entrance included, and free car parking. All this for the price of a normal double bed room, having only free parking and included breakfast. So that is a superior deal (pun intended)!
The hotel is next to the P2 entrance of Plitvice Jezera park. The superior room has a separate sitting area and a balcony and is facing the park side of the hotel, a normal room does not have this. The location is excellent, the only thing you hear at night are birds and the waterfalls. Service is also excellent, at the reception desk and everywhere else. Everything in the room is spotlessly clean, the bed is by far the most comfortable we had throughout our holiday and we could not hear the neighbours. There is a safe in the room, which can be convenient.
That is the positive side. The main negative is a total lack of ventilation in the rooms and hallways. Only the restaurant has A/C, which is not always turned on... It was 32°C outside and inside during the day, and 25 at night. It is too hot to sleep well. We opened the door and window all night, room temperature became somewhat pleasant from about 22:00. The hotel is built in 1954 and the most recent renovation was in the late nineties. The rooms are dated, especially the bathroom. Everything works but things like the shower head are worn. The window would not open at first, because the hinges are tired. I had to lift the whole window before opening. Paint falls off the woodwork on the outside. The buffet breakfast was mediocre, and is only served indoors while there is a huge outdoor terrace. The terrace should be inviting, but it seems that it has been unused for a long time. For lunch and dinner you have to walk to hotel Jezera next door. Our included dinner buffet was mainly OK and sometimes a bit disappointing. In general, food was not exciting though well prepared, some food has been standing for too long. The next day, it was noticeably better.
Parts of the hotel are not in use anymore. At first, this is not noticeable and it has never been a problem. It is visible in some details. Doors leading to an disused part are quite well hidden by painted wooden boards and some chairs put in front of it: distraction complete. Only when you go to the park entrance, you find the once welcoming and very fifties-styled old hotel entrance, terrace and I think a former lobby. This area is completely abandoned and in disrepair. The main entrance is moved to the back side of the hotel a long time ago.
In the end, we had a good time at Plitvička Jezera Park, and the stay in this hotel was positive. I think the normal room prices are too high for what you get, our package deal has a fair price. It is a shame that there are so many parts in disrepair, this hotel has so much potential to be very attractive. Excellent staff, the price we paid and room cleanliness make up for these mishaps. The best news was one of the staff telling us that the hotel will be renovated later this year. I sincerely hope that it will revive the hotel to the glory it once had, because it...
Read moreWow! What a perfect hotel for a traveler visiting the park. When I was researching to plan our trip, I was a bit overwhelmed trying to figure out how to get here and where to stay. I thought about renting a car and saw airbnbs in the area, but both were pricey options. The hotel is walking distance from Bus stop 2(less than a 10 min walk and through the beautiful forest!) We got the September special package that included our tickets to the park in the cost and breakfast! This ended up being a fantastic deal.
The rooms are a bit dated but soft beds and nice views. A faint cigarette smell (to be expected! But just something to be aware of if you’re from the US). The staff were all extremely nice and spoke English.
Not a ton of food options nearby but there’s a buffet at the hotel next door for dinner, 20 €, good food! The included breakfast was good as well and the coffee was fabulous. For dinner our 2nd night, walked over to the little village about 25 mins away to get pizza. It’s a nice walk through the forest.
The entrance to the park is a 2 min walk from the hotel. When we were leaving, the hotel kindly offered a free ride from one of their drivers to bus stop 1 to make sure we got a good seat on the bus to Split.
I cannot recommend this place enough if you are visiting without a car! Convenient, good price, nice people, and very accommodating.
The hotel is very interesting style, I would describe it as mid century modern? Very different and kind of feels like you’re stepping back in time. Really cool photos of it in history on the staircase walking down to breakfast.
Also a really nice hotel bar with a balcony that somehow was never crowded! Fantastic sunsets. Got a bit hot at night though, no air...
Read moreThe receptionist was friendly and doing the best she could, but it seemed like way too much work for one person. There was a line to check in and the phone kept ringing. But we eventually made it through the line. Our room was a good size, with one double bed and one single bed plus a desk and a little table. The closet had a large size safe that could easily fit a laptop. The bathroom was a good size with plenty of counter space. The room was clean but seemed to be a little outdated. There was no AC in the room but we opened the window in the evening to let in the cool air. The one negative was not enough power plugs and the few that were available were not in convenient locations, for example not near the desk or the beds. Another gotcha was that my phone did not charge at night and it turned out that I needed to have the switch near the door on, to power the outlet. The breakfast buffet was very good with plenty of choices. The hotel had a large lobby area and a beautiful outdoor seating area. The best part and the main reason to stay in this hotel is that it is a very easy walk to the entrance of Plitvice National Park. We booked the package that included free entrance to the park with our hotel stay for every night we were at the hotel, which was a great deal. To get to the park entrance, you just need to exit the hotel turn right, up the stairs off the parking lot, then right again down to the walkway. Walk down the walkway and in approx. 5 minutes you will see the entrance...
