Our current stay at Afrodita Village in Tučepi has been below expectations, particularly given the price and hotel category. While the location is convenient, several aspects of service and facilities require improvement.
Breakfast and dinner options are basic and lack both flavor and variety, with little effort to create a memorable dining experience.
All drinks at dinner are charged separately. The price for the same bottle of water has varied depending on the waiter. It is unclear whether this is due to discretionary tipping being added or other inconsistencies in billing, but it creates an impression of poor pricing transparency.
Room cleanliness is adequate, and renovations are modest but acceptable. The interior design in common areas still reflects the style of the 1960s.
The “double bed” consists of two separate mattresses placed together, which tend to shift apart during the night, creating an uncomfortable gap in the middle.
Mornings are often disturbed by persistent cracking noises, most likely caused by a mouse in wall around the AC. This raises concerns about possible unwanted pests in rooms (not counting the visible caterpillars in outdoor areas).
The beach and pool towel system operates on guest cards, but availability has been an issue. During our stay so far, we have only managed to get towels once (on the second day). On the fourth day, after complaining at reception, we were given towels sourced from the fitness room.
Sunbeds on the beach are managed by an external operator who reserves all shaded spots very early in the morning. Guests realistically need to arrive before 5 AM to secure shade.
Toilets at the pool area are dirty and have an unpleasant odor, which is unacceptable for a hotel of this category.
Air conditioning inside the hotel common areas is set very low, creating an uncomfortably large temperature difference compared to the outdoor heat.
While cats can be charming, several roam freely around the restaurant terrace and even lie on chairs at tables. Guests with allergies or sensitivities should be aware of this.
It is not possible to simply charge lobby or restaurant expenses to your room and settle them upon check-out without prepayment. Guests must first deposit at least €100 onto their room account.
Afrodita Village benefits from a prime location but is let down by outdated interiors, inconsistent service, unclear pricing practices, cleanliness issues in shared facilities, and poor operational organization. Compared to other 4-star hotels on the Makarska Riviera, it falls significantly short in both quality and guest experience. While improvements in service standards, transparency, and amenities could raise its standing, in its current state, it does not meet expectations for its category...
Read moreCurrently still at the hotel. Mostly everything here is great, the rooms are fantastic, clean, and the food is wonderful. The hotel staff is so kind and helpful. However, the plumbing was a mess for us. Important to note: all we look for is clean and functioning, nothing luxury. Our toilet had problems from the very beginning. Every time we flushed was a guessing game of if it would work. I visited the reception desk daily to ask for it to be fixed, out of 14 days we stayed here it was only fixed twice. It just wouldn't flush and would leak and splash all around the outside of the toilet even though the lid was down. Having toilet water all over the bathroom is not something anyone wants on their holiday! Eventually my husband starting taking of the plastic flush thing from the wall and fixing the tank inside. He did it at least 3 times a day because we gave up on the hotel calling the plumber and him not showing up. On our last full day we were met with new problems. We didn't have any warm water and the shower kept flooding. It wouldn't be an issue if our 2 year old didn't have a fever and needed a shower. We went to the front desk again and they were visibly irritated by the plumber who works until 16:00 and then comes back at 19:00. Because it was 16:40 they couldn't wait for him to come back, so they gave us a key to a room just to shower our son, which we thought was quite kind. However, we walked into a dirty room that had just been vacated. We first had to rinse and somewhat clean as much as we could, and then shower and dress a toddler without letting him touch anything in there since it was so gross. Back in our room we showered with freezing water and poured boiling water from the hotel room kettle into the drain in hopes it would help... It didn't. Currently waiting for 19:00 for the plumber to come fix the plumbing. Though the rooms are newly renovated and the faucets are Hansgrohe, the parts you can't see (inside the water tank) is all low quality and plastic. This is the only reason we are rethinking coming back again next year. We're very curious to see if the hotel will compensate in any way for this ridiculous issue we've had everyday we've been here. Also curious as to how much fixing a toilet multiple times a...
Read moreStayed for 10 days in July 2022. To start with I have a disability, the staff were aware and the room assigned was at the top of the steps and had the necessary grab rail in the bathroom. I was able to manage, but did make it more difficult than I would've liked.
The reception staff spoke good English, I asked for some extra pillows every day from the day I arrived to hell suppor my leg whilst in bed, after 4 days they finally arrived.
The bar in reception shows as being open most of the day, however it isn't. There is only one staff member who runs it and she is horribly overworked.
The bar was unnatended for 4 hours one day whilst I sat waiting for a drink and reception staff helped themselves to drinks but didn't see to any customers. Only when the lady returned to the bar who usually runs it did drinks start to be served.
The pool was ok, nice size and depth, but very busy, but more importantly, the pool was dirty, there was debris in the bottom of the pool which stayed for the duration of our stay. It had been there long enough that seeds dropped into the pool that had settled at the bottom had started to grow roots. You also had to reserve sunbeds very early, as otherwise there were none left by 9am.
The food at the restaurant was a standard quality, not bad, but nothing to shout about. Fair veriety, plenty of choice, local cuisine or the standard pizza and chips was available every day.
The hotel is located very close to the beach so only have to cross the road to get there, but if you book with a big travel company the bus won't take you directly to the hotel and you have to walk the last bit, as the bus cannot fit down the access road. (Again not great as a disabled person). It is a 2hr bis ride from the airport to this hotel, which is a lovely drive, but takes a lot out of your first and last day.
The views from this location are incredible. Big mountains to the rear and the sea to the front.
Most importantly. Bed bugs in the bed! I was bitten every night, and only after I'd gone to bed and never during the day or evening.
Two stars overall as service wasn't very good, but a nice location. I would go to the location again, but...
