I learned of Tony while looking for private tours online. His prior tour guests raved about him and now I know why! Our cruise ship (Azamara) was in port in Cienfuegos just one day. I emailed with Tony several times and he was very responsive and shared great itinerary ideas, and his English was impeccable so it was very easy to understand his descriptions and answers to my questions. We ultimately booked the Cienfuegos and Trinidad tour. He met us at the port in had a sign with my name as he described. It was very easy to connect with him. We next met his driver. His driver was very professional and polite been a pleasure to be with throughout the day as well. It was great touring just the four of us. Many of our fellow passengers from the cruise complained about how slow the bus tours went, how other passengers held everyone up, etc. This private tour with Tony was completely and our pace. We started our day in Trinidad and saw the main parts of the city and walked through the Museo de la Lucha contra Bandidos which tells the story of the counter-revolutionary groups. The museum is housed in an old convent located in the town Square called Plaza Mayor. We then returned to Cienfuegos and saw famous buildings, entered several old, restored historic hotels including the Arabian styled Palacio de Valle and the Club Cienfuegos (a former exclusive yacht club for the very wealthy), and did walking and driving tours of historic areas, former wealthy residential areas and shopping areas. Tony’s style was perfect... he shared a lot of information but at a comfortable pace, and very conversationally. He was with us yet also gave us some space. He knows exactly how to facilitate an all day tour with guests. I’ll also add that he arranged lunch for us at a privately owned restaurant that was excellent. As US citizens we are not allowed to patronize government owned businesses including restaurants. But also the private owned restaurants have a reputation of being even better than the ones run by the government. The one he took us to was truly excellent. The food and the service or top-notch. We really enjoyed the experience. Tony also provides you with a written agenda that demonstrates compliance with the Visa status option 4 of “Support for the Cuban People”, so in the unlikely event of being questioned by either government you have the agenda and your photos to show your legal compliance. Book with Tony and have a...
Read moreI loved the look of the building from the outside. We arrived when it was dark and it struck me that the rooms were quite dark inside. The rooms (we had a bedroom and living room) on the ground floor facing the rear were large with high ceilings with old fashioned but acceptable furniture. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and the air conditioning welcome when it was needed. |In the morning I opened the curtains to enjoy the view outside only to find that the windows had opaque glass so I couldn't see a thing. There were a couple of windows in our bedroom that had normal glass but the windows were about two meters up. It made me feel a bit like being in a prison. I decided to open the windows but most wouldn't open. One that did open wouldn't stay open and I was very unhappy. It would've been nice to let some fresh air in and to be able to enjoy the views. The windows themselves need some serious attention as they are rotting. |The other issue was the bath. Every time we showered the water wouldn't drain so we ended up knee deep in water. I had to switch the shower off twice when I washed my hair for a few minutes to give the water time to go down or the water might have overflowed. |There was never a member of staff around to speak to. Someone only appeared on the morning that we left to charge us for the water we had taken from the fridge in our room. |For wifi we had to go across the road to the Jagua hotel which is also where breakfast was served. Wifi was extremely unreliable here but then you will already know that it isn't great anywhere in Cuba. |I have no experience of the other rooms but in my opinion Casa Verde could be a great place to stay if it was given a bit of TLC and some new windows but as it is now I...
