First of all I would like to start with the location. After 3 days of trekking in this area I must say, that the village Modrava is so much nicer than all other villages around. It´s a beautiful little village in the middle of nature, that has a nice and peaceful atmosphere, there are only houses with the typical architecture of this region, it´s located in a small valley crossed by one river and one stream and it´s still a village (with a small center etc). Eg the village Srni is really ugly, it´s bigger, not so quite and full of ugly comunistic building, then other places like eg Horska Kvilda are nice, with a view, but there are only few houses - hotels built far off from each other without any center, without any feeling of being in a village. The nature is beautiful all around this area. So it´s worth staying in Modrava in any free accommodation which you´ll find there||Hotel Modrava is OK. It could be certainly cheaper or they should improve their service for the price that charge now. The location is very good as I explained above. We were very well surprised with the breakfest,it was really good. The room was clean and cosy. But normally our room is for 3 people we stayed there in 2 and a small dog and it was totally allright, for 3 it won´t be enough space. What is the biggest mistake of this hotel that they don´t change the towels everyday, then I missed in the room a hairdryer and a small fridge or a minibar. Also the common area - like stairs could be cleaner, it smells after dogs and it even doesn´t look really clean. ||The restaurant was ok. Their soups are really home - made and the main dishes were allright. One plate was terrible, but other ok, but It´s still better choice then to eat in Klostermannova Chata, where the food was honestly disgusting, instant goulash soup, horrible main dishes and we had both me and my boyfriend serious stomach problems after the...
Read moreHotel is located right next to busy road, but it is busy only during the day - and you will probably be away. They have quite big parking place on the opposite side of the road. Our room was big and clean (little bit dated), thankfully we were above the restaurant so the wifi was working. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Each food we had in their restaurant was simply amazing and yummy, don´t have any complaint. Also breakfast was always great with many options - just didn´t like the coffe... but I guess "breakfast coffee" in hotels are all bad :-) As far as I remember there was also a kid room.||I rented bike in the hotel and we went for a ride... there are many beautiful roads for riding and walking. Šumava is very different from Giant mountains, where I am living.||I had just one issue and it was with the kids there.... I am 100% sure that they were the owner´s kids/kid... because their behaviour was horrible... slaming doors all the time, yelling and behaving simply "bratish" - I also grew up in the hotel and I had to be respectfull.... ||Overall very nice...
Read moreWe visited Modrava with 90 students from the Netherlands and partly stayed in this hotel. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner arranged by this hotel. You can expect an informal hotel, with very outdated rooms and a big language barrier with the staff if you don’t speak Czech. Think twice about that when you book here. To start positively, the vegetarian dishes were very very good. A big thanks to the chef. Breakfast and lunch were okay. The vegan lunch was not very good, but I can understand that this can be difficult It’s an okay hotel, but the staff doesn’t speak good english, and some don’t speak it at all. Because of the language barrier, sometimes there were difficult situations. They got angry at some point. Their attitude stayed the whole week we slept here and caused a tense atmosphere. Hospitality doesn’t seem to be present here. However I don’t want to give 1 star cause a believe everyone can learn, but this hotel as a big way to go. Some little other remark is that the roomservice did not come every day and that we had to ask for towels...
