This is classed as 3 star but in Oz it's probably 2 star - but loved it anyway. I apologise in advance as I should have posted this piece 18 months ago. We were there in July 2009 not July 2010. By looking at the website nothing has changed much so I feel comfortable writing this (about time as we are going again later this year). Hotel has a Harley Davidson biker theme (although we are not bikers). Some rooms including ours are decorated in Harley Davidson covers, sheets, pillow cases, Harley Davidson bike painting on wall above bed. HD black and orange decor. Hotel is right next to the River Sazava where people kayak, swim and fish. Lovely setting. Good area for lots of bush walking if you're into it. Walked along the top of the Zampach bridge and if you look at a photo on Google Images, you will see a little ledge at the top. This is where 3 of us had to squash ourselves in whilst a train went past (a bit scary !!). Service was great although understandably, we could not understand each other too well. Breakfast was very good and huge (could never eat all of it). We stayed 3 nights and put everything on the tab including cigarettes, alcohol, meals other than breakfast as it was included - even shouting people a few meals here and there and alcohol. If I remember correctly the bill for the 3 nights was around A$450 for everything!! Don't get me wrong because if you want 3 or 4 star this is not it. It's old and could do with some modernisation but the rooms are clean and pleasant (and very different). The food is good, people are friendly, service was good, scenery was excellent - a little hard without a car as we needed to get rides into Jilove u Prahy township all the time but if you don't know people there, you will need a car. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at the Tronicek and would absolutely recommend to anyone who's after something a little different, unpretentious and NOT posh - but cheap, good food, service, people, scenery (and decor !!!). Try something different from the usual, drab, uninteresting hotel rooms. To see website and pics go to: http://www.hoteltronicek.cz/kontakt_a_ceny.html (sorry haven't posted any - may do so at a...
Read moreFour pensioners on our traditional bicycle tour, this time in Czech Republic. In Jilové u Prahy, contemplating our chances to find a place for the night, we finally got a positive answer, Hotel Tronicek in the outskirts of the city. After a delightful downhill ride, we arrived at an interesting place. It was dedicated to receiving Harley-Davidson motorists. Everywhere the H-D theme could be seen, photos, frescos, even on the pillow cases and sheet cases. Many things seemed to have passed its best before date, but we can’t tell what the place is like during high season. Now the place was nearly dead. The restaurant was closed, and the only breakfast was a cup of coffee. No restaurants in the vicinity, we enjoyed what we had with us, in a miniscule cold room, jackets on. The heating in the rooms were turned off, but the blankets were warm as was the shower. The rooms and shower rooms were neat and clean. On the whole the experience was good, and we were grateful to have found shelter...
Read moreNice hotel and vintage restaurant close to the river Salava. There is a meeting point of Harley-Davidson Club as well. The food in restaurant is average but good and fresh. I can recommend the famous Sopsky salad and traditional fried cheese, a Czech special food. It is better to sit outside if weather OK. The inside is bit old fashioned and vintage The...
