Hotel Tannishus — Hotel in Hjørring Municipality

Driving from the Netherlands to Norway for a roadtrip with 5 sportscars we decided to use this hotel for a 1 night stay before taking the ferrie to Kristianstad. Arriving on a Sunday evening we found that the restaurant was closed, so quickly had to find a place to eat. This wasn't difficult because there was only one open in the area. With the knowledge that we would stay in the same place on our way back some of us upgraded their rooms because they only had a fold out couch in a tiny room compared with the rest of us who had a complete apartment. All rooms could do with some renovation, however for just 1 night stay cannot complain too much. In order to have a nice dinner on the way back we reserved a table in the restaurant which would be open for our return trip. This is where our amazing experience started... Arriving the next Thursday on our way back home we sat down for dinner in the restaurant. The waiter gave us 1 Danish menu for an a la carte dinner. After translating the complete menu to one of us from Danish to English and ready for ordering he told us we could not eat a la carte but only from a set 3 course menu. We laughed and asked him why show us the a la carte menu and translate? He repeated only set 3 course menu and put the menu (in Danish) on the table. We all read the menu and understood most of it (Danish is simular to Dutch) so we told him we would take that then. He then told us this was Friday's set menu and it was Thursday so he had to change the menu. Now we were given Thursday's 3 course set menu. We asked him if he was joking, but no..., this was what we could have. We quickly booked him before he could change his mind again and to be honest; the food was quite good! Hotel Tannishus is on a good location near the beach and close to Hirtshals. We arrived with the late afternoon ferry from Norway and it was only 15 minutes to drive. The reception was closed but they left the keys on a good spot. The apartment was very nice with a fully equipped kitchen. Very comfortable. We think the name Hotel isn’t the right name because it is more a collection of apartments. There is no breakfast in the restaurant but you can order ahead to take with you to the apartment. We had booked the breakfast but after a very nice call from the reception with this information, we have cancelled the breakfast. We booked one night here on our way home from southern Denmark, simply because of the location - very close to Hirtshals and the ferry to Norway. We were recommended to choose the "studio apartment" with to kids, 0-3 years old. The apartment were VERY small and there is no beds - It's fold out sofas. It's not suitable for a family of four, with two small children WHAT so ever. The rug on the floor were very poorly cleaned, it was obvious that there had been animals there before us. Also, you need to bring your own bed linen |towels and make the "bed". breakfast is not included, and you need to clean the room before check out - this is not a hotel standard for me, more like a camping cottage or hostel. Will unfortunately never return...
