Worst Stjerneskud in Nordjylland!
After reading some of the positive reviews my wife and I decided to give the place a try for dinner - that was a big mistake! The smell of frying oil behind the place most probably should have ignited the warning lights but we decided to go for dinner. As the menu was very limited we both decided to have the “Stjerneskud” as we each day during the last week have tried this dish around Nordjylland and as this place marked itself as being a fishmonger we figured the dish would be delicious made with fresh products. When the plates was served after less than 10 minutes it right away was clear that nothing here was fresh. The “fresh peeled prawns” no doubt came from a plastic container from some wholesale place, having the taste of old stale sea water. The flounder (which is the main ingredient of the dish) is a disgrace considering we are in the fishing Mecca of the North. No doubt it was pre fabricated frozen industrial fish filets that most probably was caught and processed more than a year ago. The only thing you could taste was the over used frying oil which should have been changed a few days ago. As the fish was un-eatable in the served state I tried to remove the thick layer of batter which revealed a gluey substance on the inside and a petty piece of fish filet which had absolutely NO taste. The dish was then tried to be camouflaged with soggy white asparagus from a can and some tasteless tomatoes to create some kind of presentation, topped of with a pink sauce that clearly was mass produced by some industrial catering company.
If you like (not even love) fish and seafood, do your self the great favor, and drive to Skagen, Hirtshals or Frederikshavn where you in all 3 cities can find amazing fresh fish and delicious dishes - and experience how a proper stjerneskud taste.
And to the people who have made the praising reviews, I’m sorry that you find this food amazing - you clearly have been neglected in your culinary...
Read moreWe had dinner at this nice local fish restaurant. We had read in the reviews that the service here could be slow and even a bit rude. We didn't experience anything like this, although at the very beginning we had to look for a waiter for a while. When the waiter was found, the service was good, fast and friendly. We ate the Stjerneskud portions and since we were very hungry, we also took the french fries as a side order. It was an exaggeration, which we soon realized. Stjerneskud is big, good-tasting and filling by itself, so we were completely full after eating. The house white wine was excellent and reasonably priced. We can...
Read moreGood for takeaway but not the buffet. The single dishes are good and big, but the buffet is expensive and not worth it. All the buffet dishes were the same with small variations, cold salmon, hot salmon, shrimp, and cod fish with bread. Crumbs, cod fish without bread Crumbs, etc not worth the 36 euros per person,in total a small variety and all very similar dishes, the food was ok, without really exciting the palate. But on the other hand, take away is more tasty, with good portions and freshly made. I recommend a visit but...
