Summary: Worst stay I have ever had at a hotel. If you want a holiday nightmare - stay here! They will take your money and give no refunds even if they do not provide you with common, basic things like hot water! I have severe complaints about my stay at Hotel Kommandørgården, Römo, Denmark in 6-8 May 2016.

At check-in on May 6th the reception staff was very aggressive about paying the total stay in advance. But I managed to tell them that I needed to check the cabin before by which they prompted me to get back as quickly as possible to pay. After a very stressful “speed check” of the cabin, and negative viewpoints of cleanliness which I unfortunately kept to myself (I was very tired due to the need to take care of my two small children after a long day of travel), I went back and paid the total amount.

Notes on the cleanliness of the cabin are nails and hairs in the bathroom sink, dead flies everywhere you can imagine, spider web from forgotten times, algae infested outdoor table, cushions with blood spots and blankets and mattresses with unidentified large spots (have they experienced possible urination accidents?). I complained about the “blood cushion” and was told it was washed! Still, after a while they gave me a new one!

In the late evening of May 6th we noticed that there was no hot or warm water, and told the reception about this immediately early the next day (May 7th) and requested a refund of 30 %. We also noticed that the fire detector was missing (there was an empty fire detector holder in the ceiling!) in the cabin! They came on May 7th in the evening and installed a fire detector. But told us that there would be no warm water for us during our stay! We were told that we could use the hotel pool showers instead! I again requested a refund of 30 % of the total amount but didn´t get any definite confirmation, but they made a note of it in their “system”.

However, despite my attempts to try and get a refund at check out for the lack of hot/warm water we didn´t get it. Instead we were treated in the worst way I have ever been treated by a hotel reception staff. I was totally ignored and when I asked to speak to the manager I was told that the manager was not there at that time and that I have to wait for an indefinite time to talk to the manager. I was also told that no other people had received refunds for the missing hot/warm water so why should I? Also, a final comment from the staff was that I had already received a good price on my accommodation and was asked in a very unfriendly manner if I had cleaned the cabin before departure.

On the customer care front: they treat paying customers like trash even if you keep your deal like cleaning your cabin. At least that is one thing they could have offered us by offering - We will clean the cabin for you because of the inconvenience of not having hot water during your stay. On the cleanliness = dreadful place!.

I say - steer clear of Hotel Kommandørgården, Römo....

My wife and I have stayed at Hotel Kommandørgården earlier and as the previous stays this was also very much a pleasure.|We had booked the 2 days "Black Sun and Oysters stay" (Sort Sol og Østersophold).|During this 2-day stay Friday to Sunday at the Hotel Kommandørgården in Denmark, we had the opportunity to experience both the breathtaking natural phenomenon of Black Sun and indulge in the region’s finest oysters, making for a truly unforgettable getaway.||Hotel Kommandørgården, nestled in the serene surroundings of the Wadden Sea National Park, exudes charm and tranquility. This rustic yet modern hotel perfectly blends tradition with comfort. The rooms were spacious and tastefully decorated, providing a peaceful retreat after a day of adventure. |The Black Sun phenomenon (Sort Sol) is a mesmerizing natural spectacle where thousands of starlings gather in the sky during sunset. This phenomenon is best viewed during the autumn months and was simply breathtaking. |We joined a guided tour Friday evening led by a knowledgeable local expert who took us to the ideal vantage points, where we were treated to the sight of the birds forming intricate, ever-shifting patterns in the sky.||On Saturday we had the chance to join a local oyster tour, where we harvested oysters from the Wadden Sea. The tour included harvesting, cleansing, opening of the oysters and a tasting session.|The tastings were both raw oyters with a squeeze of lemon and vinegar, and several types of oven-cooked recipes all of them delicious. The oysters were nicely paired with a glass of crisp sparkling wine.||The service at Hotel Kommandørgården was impeccable. The staff were friendly, professional, and went out of their way to make sure every aspect of my stay was enjoyable. From organizing the Black Sun tours to guiding the best oyster spots, they were incredibly accommodating and knowledgeable.|Kommandørgården's restaurant did not let us down either, from the fish buffet Friday evening, to the traditional "cake table" (Sønderjysk kagebord) Saturday to the lovely Saturday evening buffet with roasts etc.|I also have to mention that they have both two wonderful outdoor pools (one was still open) and an even more lovely indoor pool combined with a Turkish bath and option to get massage.||Conclusion:|Our 2-day stay at Hotel Kommandørgården was nothing short of brilliant. Between the stunning Black Sun spectacle and the unforgettable oyster experiences, it was a perfect blend of nature and gastronomy. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast or a food lover, this hotel offers a fine experience that combines comfort with the beauty of Denmark's coastal environment. Highly...

Kommandørgården is a hotel, a camping grounds, a riding stable, and a magical amusement park. The hotel is well kept with friendly staff and clean facilities. The camping grounds are organized logically: camping plots are complemented with adoreable little huts and there are multiple washing and cooking facilities distributed all over the camp grounds. It's a calm place so you can get a good night's sleep before exploring the great outdoors surrounding Kommandørgården. There are meadowes with horses, the coastline, and romantic forests with lots of deer easily reachable on foot (and horseback, should you so choose).

To us, the main attraction of Kommandørgården is definitly the riding stables. They breed their own horses and at the time of this writing have about 120 icelandic horses, two donkeys, a Shetland pony and a massive Shire horse. All animals are very well kept, indeed it would seem that their well being is everybody's main concern. Kommandørgården offers riding tours (and basic instructions). For tours, participants are grouped according to skill level and then assigned a horse. This horse assignment takes quite some time, as all employees take care that you get a horse that fits well with your level of skill and size of physique. When booking a riding tour, be sure to be there one hour before it starts, so you have enough time to get to know your horse.

The tours are very well led, by experienced, friendly and really helpful guides. Tours are trilingual in Danish, German, and English. In our party we had newbies as well as seasoned riders, and all of them got something out of each tour we took.

If you are looking for a place to stay in Rømø, this lovely hotel and camp grounds are highly recommended. If you are looking at enriching your stay with some horse time - you cannot find a better place in that area of...

Hotel Kommandørgården on Rømø, what a wonderful place. We stayed one week in January, the off-season, and were at times the only guests, yet we were warmly welcomed and had most services available. Accommodations were made according to our food allergies (for example fish) and our meals were thought out and different, never had the same meal twice. We are vegetarian and never had the easy Spagetti with sauce, but always something special, even on Friday when the fish-buffet was full of guests. The staff were always nice and helpful and could answer our questions in english or german. We'd especially recommend a tour with the in-house islandic horses. They were wonderful and extremely chill for beginner riders, but also challenging enough for experienced riders. All in all, we had a wonderful experience and would recommend everyone to go and get hyggelig (danish for comfortable and cosy) at Hotel Kommandørgården.

I spend the VIP riding weekend and what can I say - the room was nice, spacious, even with a small kitchenette (one of the new rooms) and great views over the camping and the sea in the back. Clean and tidy! The only mark: the bed is rather small for two and not the most comfy. Food was great - a nice selection of local and international food. Service can by times be a bit slow and confusing with languages BUT always kind and friendly. The location is great - immediately next to the Wadden sea. The best: the horses. Huge fields, great guides, beautiful nature, and very very well-hearted and happy and well nurtured horses with a great spirit. They differ in characteristics but they make it easy to find the right one for you. The Mandø Tour is maybe a bit more expensive but 100% worth it. Also, go on a Beach or sunset ride - you won’t regret it!
