Summary: Worst stay I have ever had at a hotel. If you want a holiday nightmare - stay here! They will take your money and give no refunds even if they do not provide you with common, basic things like hot water! I have severe complaints about my stay at Hotel Kommandørgården, Römo, Denmark in 6-8 May 2016.
At check-in on May 6th the reception staff was very aggressive about paying the total stay in advance. But I managed to tell them that I needed to check the cabin before by which they prompted me to get back as quickly as possible to pay. After a very stressful “speed check” of the cabin, and negative viewpoints of cleanliness which I unfortunately kept to myself (I was very tired due to the need to take care of my two small children after a long day of travel), I went back and paid the total amount.
Notes on the cleanliness of the cabin are nails and hairs in the bathroom sink, dead flies everywhere you can imagine, spider web from forgotten times, algae infested outdoor table, cushions with blood spots and blankets and mattresses with unidentified large spots (have they experienced possible urination accidents?). I complained about the “blood cushion” and was told it was washed! Still, after a while they gave me a new one!
In the late evening of May 6th we noticed that there was no hot or warm water, and told the reception about this immediately early the next day (May 7th) and requested a refund of 30 %. We also noticed that the fire detector was missing (there was an empty fire detector holder in the ceiling!) in the cabin! They came on May 7th in the evening and installed a fire detector. But told us that there would be no warm water for us during our stay! We were told that we could use the hotel pool showers instead! I again requested a refund of 30 % of the total amount but didn´t get any definite confirmation, but they made a note of it in their “system”.
However, despite my attempts to try and get a refund at check out for the lack of hot/warm water we didn´t get it. Instead we were treated in the worst way I have ever been treated by a hotel reception staff. I was totally ignored and when I asked to speak to the manager I was told that the manager was not there at that time and that I have to wait for an indefinite time to talk to the manager. I was also told that no other people had received refunds for the missing hot/warm water so why should I? Also, a final comment from the staff was that I had already received a good price on my accommodation and was asked in a very unfriendly manner if I had cleaned the cabin before departure.
On the customer care front: they treat paying customers like trash even if you keep your deal like cleaning your cabin. At least that is one thing they could have offered us by offering - We will clean the cabin for you because of the inconvenience of not having hot water during your stay. On the cleanliness = dreadful place!.
I say - steer clear of Hotel Kommandørgården, Römo....

Read moreKommandørgården is a hotel, a camping grounds, a riding stable, and a magical amusement park. The hotel is well kept with friendly staff and clean facilities. The camping grounds are organized logically: camping plots are complemented with adoreable little huts and there are multiple washing and cooking facilities distributed all over the camp grounds. It's a calm place so you can get a good night's sleep before exploring the great outdoors surrounding Kommandørgården. There are meadowes with horses, the coastline, and romantic forests with lots of deer easily reachable on foot (and horseback, should you so choose).
To us, the main attraction of Kommandørgården is definitly the riding stables. They breed their own horses and at the time of this writing have about 120 icelandic horses, two donkeys, a Shetland pony and a massive Shire horse. All animals are very well kept, indeed it would seem that their well being is everybody's main concern. Kommandørgården offers riding tours (and basic instructions). For tours, participants are grouped according to skill level and then assigned a horse. This horse assignment takes quite some time, as all employees take care that you get a horse that fits well with your level of skill and size of physique. When booking a riding tour, be sure to be there one hour before it starts, so you have enough time to get to know your horse.
The tours are very well led, by experienced, friendly and really helpful guides. Tours are trilingual in Danish, German, and English. In our party we had newbies as well as seasoned riders, and all of them got something out of each tour we took.
If you are looking for a place to stay in Rømø, this lovely hotel and camp grounds are highly recommended. If you are looking at enriching your stay with some horse time - you cannot find a better place in that area of...
