Reviewing this hotel will be a difficult thing. My experience in the hotel was, to be honest, checkered and inconsistent. I feel the best way, then, is to approach it in parts:||||LOCATION 5/5||Great location, at a 10 minute drive to the Malecón, El Morro and everything in between. ||||PREMISES AND AMENITIES 5/5||It is a small hotel, so one expects zero to few amenities, but I was favorably surprised to see that in addition to the lobby with its full bar and the restaurant, there is a beautiful and large gazebo which could be great for a family or company gathering. There is a very nice pool with a beautiful deck area and a small kids playground off to its side.||||ROOMS 2/5 ||This is where things start to get tricky. The rooms are large and well decorated. You do get an impression that a good decorator did work with the space and gave it an upscale feel and so the rooms made a great first impression. Then you walk into the back to the closet/luggage area and you find what look like mice droppings in the corner of the top shelf. You discard the shelve's use and go to the bathroom to take a shower and find a nice set of towels and a bare set of toiletries, that didn't seem to be up to par with the hotel. The packaging even looked spent, as if they had been used and refilled over and over. Above, there were cobwebs in the ceiling and cracks in the upper walls that didn't give a good impression. ||||Lastly and critical, the sheets were rough and grating, and the mattress extremely uncomfortable. The bedding itself didn't feel fresh and clean.||||I was toiling with giving this aspect of the stay an average score (3) but decided that the uncleanliness deserved a point deduction.||||STAFF 3/5||This was another tricky part. The staff is not the friendliest bunch, but most of them were extremely helpful in accommodating whatever this first-time traveler to the area needed. From finding me an amazing tour company to show me the nearby natural sights (Galleon Divers), to giving me advice and directions, to washing my travel mug in the kitchen so I could take my morning coffee with me. A little bit of a friendlier attitude would have gone long way.||||The problem here was also that some were borderline aloof and I also heard some of them arguing, which was uncomfortable. ||||FOOD 3/5||The food options are limited, which is understandable, but I feel the menu needs to be a bit more diverse. The food itself wasn't bad, just not good.||||PRICE 3/5||Considering all of the above, had the rooms been clean and the mattress/bedding comfortable, I would have been happy with the price. But that disappointment weighs heavily...
Read moreThe hill El Morro near the city Monte Crisit is a must seen on your next visit to Dominican Rep! The nearest hotel to the hill and the nearby beach is this hotel. The location is really amazing, because you have direct view to the sea and the hill El Morro too! The hotel has no direct beach side, but it's just 3 min by bike or 10 min by walking far. The access to the El Morro hill is about 5 min by car. There is another amazing beach! But you to wake up very early in the morning and climing the hill El Morro before 7 o'clock! Than the walk path is on the shadow side of the hill! After 9 o'clock the sun is raising up so high and the temperature get increasing so fast, that it's impossible to have good walking, maybe you get dangerous overheated. Never forget your personal water bottle! The hotel has a large main house with a club foyer and a nice dining room. The sleeping rooms are big, located in small double apartment houses, so don't be too loud with your night pleasure job. Near to the aparment they also have a large club house for spend you laisure time during day after 11 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon with a good drink, because is seriously to hot for any activities. The hotel place is very far from the city, so you never listen any local music, which can be very loud and make you European Eco Traveller more nervous ... for this the hotel doesn't belongs to the locals, because they prefer the music places. So you are alone with some other expats or gringos and their local beauties or some richyrich or newrich people from Santiago or Sto Dgo, whos feel too hoity-toity for stay with the natives. By the end the pool is nice and you will enjoy your full airconditioned eco friendly apartment. If you like to spend more money they offer you some guided tours around the El Morro. All the other things are good to very good, but...
Read moreWe were in Santiago on our way to a hotel in Dajabon when we found out that unrest at the border had made its way into the area of our planned hotel stay. With the military called out to deal with the problem, we did not feel comfortable sticking with our plans and started to look at other options.||That lead to some quick phone calls. The staff at El Morro Eco were very helpful in making arrangements to accommodate our group (4 rooms).||On arrival we were greeted with cold drinks and assisted getting bags to our rooms. We had a late dinner and everyone was very happy with the quality of the food. The reception lobby, bar area, and dining area were all very clean and looked very nice. Everything was very well maintained. Staff was very professional and attentive.||The rooms were also very nice. Clean and comfortable. Lights and air conditioning worked and there was plenty of hot water.||A few of us wanted to try the pool, but we were all exhausted. I planned on going for a swim the next morning, but I slept in a bit and by the time I woke up I only had time to grab a quick breakfast and jump in the car to get to our first meetings in Dajabon. The pool certainly looked inviting.||Breakfast was great, and I believe it was included with the room charge.||In summary, while we didn't have time to explore the area and really enjoy the hotel, we appreciated the assistance staff provided and we were impressed with the hotel. We are regularly in the area working on Rotary community projects in Dajabon, but I think we were all in agreement that we would like to try and stay for a couple of days at El Morro Eco on a future trip for a little R & R after our...
