Families: Be Cautious. Children Are Not Welcome Here

We moved into Ocean Palms believing it was a family-friendly residence. What we experienced instead was repeated hostility toward our children.

Our kids were screamed at multiple times by a neighbor. One incident escalated into threats against our family. Management advised us not to confront the aggressor due to her “important family connections & being crazy.” When we tried to formally report the incidents, we were told there was no complaint process for us.

We were then repeatedly blamed for general noise complaints, even when the events did not involve our children. The owner directly told us, in his own words, that “adults are the priority here” and that we were “the sacrificial lamb” for being a family with kids.

Though our deposit was returned without issue, this does not erase the gaslighting, discrimination, and emotional harm we endured. We were ultimately left with no choice but to leave to protect our children’s well-being.

Ocean Palms may appear community-oriented, but it is not family-welcoming. Families, especially those raising neurodivergent children, should proceed with...

It was ok.

The apartment has really clean rooms and new equipment. Furthermore it had a lovely but creaking bed and 2 separate air-conditioning units for the living room and bedroom.

The swimming pool was ok, a few leaves were floating on the corner. But it offered free towels and the sunbeds were fine.

There is a bar but we had no idea what the opening times are. Upon arrival and the next morning it was open. The days afterwards it was closed. Also the receptionist told us "we could have a little disturbance due to a wedding" but the wedding was until 00:00 with loud music. Would have been nice to inform us that the pool was also closed and the wedding was until midnight. Couldn't sleep until the party with loud music was over.

In the contrary she arranged a transfer to the next hotel, which was a nice gesture. But told us that it was " such a beautiful place". Though we thought it was sincerely, we asked "oh really?" Upon which she replied "no that's my sarcasm".

So mixed feelings about the place. Hence the 3 stars. Would not recommend it for the price, but wouldn't advise...

Ocean Palms is located just off the main road in Playa Encuentro. The property is incredibly managed – manicured landscapes, always clean, housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, etc. I'm here longterm (several months) and am amazed at how quickly issues are solved though I haven't had very many... just a few internet complaints and a lightbulb change. ||||The units (it's a condo hotel with long and short-term rentals) are beautiful, a modern aesthetic with luxury fixtures. Very comfortable. ||||I feel like I'm in paradise – every morning I wake up to a beautiful sunrise and walk to the beach to go surfing. Come back, have breakfast at the restaurant and get to work. OPR has the most reliable internet I have experienced in Cabarete so far. Great for a remote worker like myself. Oh! And they're setting up a co-working space for residents and guests – can't wait!! If I'm in on the North Coast of DR, I doubt I'll be anywhere but...
