Ocama — Hotel in Samana

Pictures and videos (from their Instagram) don’t do this place justice: it’s infinitely more magical in-person. We missed every minute of our time at Casa Guada, so much so that we ended up turning around from our next travel destination on a 4-hour car ride, right back to Ocama for the remainder of our trip.

From start to end, Hans was very responsive and came to our rescue to accommodate our last-minute plans to return to Ocama. Hemilio was a true rockstar, always lending us a helping hand with the biggest smile (taking us on a joyride on his golf cart to the beaches, stocking us up with plenty of ice for our rosé by the waterfront, picking us up when we were caught in a (quick) rainstorm!) Orquideea and Jose also came to our rescue when my girlfriend had a bit of an emergency. To top it off, our private dinners with Stefano were an absolute delight and we got to celebrate our anniversary with delectable treats (in-house mango and dragon fruit sorbets made from scratch). We also had a couple’s massage session by the deck area overlooking the ocean; the masseuse were right on with their pressure points and it was the most relaxing experience we’ve had with the ocean breeze and the sun beating down on our back. The view from the infinity pool was amazing except we spent most of our time by the beaches. The best beaches in the area are actually right on the premise (either a 5-min hike or just a walk/cart ride away). On our last, last day, we squeezed in one more stroll by the waters. We got to say our hellos with Mark before our take off and his enthusiasm and heart for Ocama and the surrounding community was infectious. You’ll feel as though you’ve transported to one of the great wonders of the world. From the scenic views of the persevered mountain range to the secluded beaches just footsteps away. Making it easy enjoy the luxuries nature provides. This seeps into intricate details put into the modern yet authentic villas interior design pulling from the elements of nature. It’s truly a cinematic experience to wake up to unobstructed views and the sounds of nature. If that isn’t enough the incredible team at Casa Kachi is attentive and kind. They actively communicate every step of the way anticipating our needs and providing top of the line service. Hans our host accommodated our late arrival and had just as much enthusiasm giving us a tour of the property as we had to see it. He organized a chat with the rest of the Villa staff to ensure we were tended to during our stay. Orquídea was the sweetest checking in with us daily and providing a plethora of recommendations for activities and scheduling of housekeeping. She even brought us over games when it was raining to ensure we were still able to enjoy our time. Stefano the chef offered his services and pots for our use he even gave us a ride up to our villa on our way back from the beach. More people need to know about this place! We booked this beautiful villa on Airbnb and it was the best decision we’ve every made! Thank you to every single staff member at the OCAMA Retreat for making this thanksgiving trip a dream come true! Our host Hans was extremely responsive, creating a group chat prior to our arrival that includes every key members at our service. He was way more than a host, but a caring local friend that was able to help us on everything single thing we need day and night. Every staff at the retreat we met was smiling, despite language barriers, we truly felt welcomed and well cared of. Going on to the property itself, the moment the sun rises and the 180 degree Tiffany blue ocean appears in front of our eyes, you can truly feel your soul cleansed. All the rooms have big comfortable beds and beautifully built interior decors that combines nature and luxury. Sitting on the terrace at night, drinking a glass of tequila the staffs prepared for us, staring up at the stars and listening to waves crashing the coasts, there are truly no words to describe this wonderful experience.

Laundry service and cooking service from chef Stefano were all available and really worth it. We also felt extremely safe thanks to the security guards on duty 24-7.
