Hacienda El Rejo — Hotel in Aloasí

One of the best hotel/overnight experiences during our 4 months travels

After climbing Cotopaxi we were looking for a place to relax. With the Hacienda El Rejo we found the perfect place: located in between green fields and various volcanos/mountains around, and various animals (cows, horses, lamas, rabbits, ...). Next to the great landscape, you need good food and accommodation to get your energy back ... all what you found on the hacienda. Food is so delicious and of highest quality. The room has a nice interior, the bed is very comfortable and all is very clean.

Not to forget the most important point: the people. We felt at home from the beginning, everybody was so friendly and wanted to make our stay to something very special.

We came to do the volcano/mountain circuit to acclimatize before attempting Cotopaxi. We stayed in Machachi town a few nights as we gathered provisions and did the first climbs. The last two nights before Cotopaxi we stayed at El Rejo to rest and recover. We stayed at the cabin with the jacuzzi. Soaking our tired bodies went a long way. The staff were kind and attentive. They helped in every way, with our bags, lighting the wood burning stove, with drinking water, lots of drinking water. It’s a family ran business. The owners and their kids were there rooting us on. We spent 5 days at the Hacienda and had an incredible time. The service is like nothing I’ve ever experienced, it was like being welcomed by family. The food for breakfast and dinner was incredible and on some nights, Julio made us special dinners of Ecuadorean specialities. We were able to help feed the calves, watched the cows being milked, fished our own dinner, did a tour of the Cotopaxi national park on horses and spent afternoons relaxing by the fire.
