Quito's central park was also Quito's saving grace for me. Although a charming city, after Calle La Ronda being closed down due to COVID restrictions and the underwhelmingness of Plaza Grande, I was about ready to go back to the Airbnb. My cooler half and I decide to tackle Parque Carolina on a Sunday afternoon and it was absolutely fantastic. The vibrance of the park made you feel so alive. People enjoying sports, food carts, merchants, beautiful scenery, all semblance of normality up for the taking. Celiacs: I admittedly didn't eat but based off my my gluten free knowledge you shouldn't have a hard time getting something to eat in this park.

Parque La Carolina is a vast oasis in the heart of Quito, offering a diverse range of attractions. From children's parks and a BMX park to open gyms and tennis fields, the park caters to various interests. The presence of a lake, running field, and even an American football field adds to its recreational charm. The airplane monument is a unique touch, and the sight of police on horses enhances the sense of security. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there—whether strolling, exercising, or sipping on a refreshing juice from one of the kiosks. A must-visit for a delightful blend of nature and activities in the heart of the city.

When visiting Quito, spend an afternoon enjoying Parque La Carolina. During the week, there are some street food vendors - this number increases quite a bit on the weekends. It is a really lovely park with different areas for you to explore based on your interests. Playgrounds? Yes, several. Walking track? Yes. Skate park? Yes. Paddle boats? Yes. Dog-friendly? Yes. Areas set aside free of dogs and set aside for with quiet activities? Yes. Great for people watching and family activities.

It’s Quito’s Central Park😎😎😎, a very large green space of very well manicured lawns. It’s a very well designed urban park of a multi-use model: walking/jogging and bike paths, football field, children’s playgrounds, large open areas suitable for group activities or cultural/entertainment events. Perhaps a more notable features of the park are the sculptures scattered throughout the park. There’s even one of a dog to mark the designated fenced dog play area. And ahhh … there’s a plane😎

The park is the largest in Quito. Located in the north side of town, it seems that despite being surrounded by at least the shopping malls, the city preserved this green Oasis for it's people. There is a big lagoon neat the southern access, passed the roller skate park. There you can rent pedal boats for little cash. The earlier you visit the better, less public and more silence. The city's botanical garden is not expensive and quite well maintained. We'll recommended.
