Our visit to Canoa, was in February 2018. We already knew that the region and specially Canoa had been struck by a fierce Earthquake two years before that had left deep wounds, yet to be healed. Luckily Olmito, due to its clever architecture and flexible building materials was one of the very few establishments and buildings that withstood the Quakes of April 2016 so it was one of the places that could recover the fastest from the shock and Canoa and Olmito have remained to be very warm welcoming places to all that come to visit. Considering that the quake was just two years ago it's amazing how fast it has managed to recover.||||So Canoa still is one of Ecuador's jewels, with its long and gentle beach, friendly people, great food and amazing natural surroundings. ||||If you decide to stay in Olmito, you will encounter a fair priced, cosy place to hang out at, just a few steps from the beach. The crew staff is always friendly and ready to help you or give you great tips if you want to make excursions in the region, and there are a bunch of nice places and adventures waiting for you.||||Olmito and its crew are also engaged in leaving a positive and constructive impression in the community of Canoa, not only in the heart of its people but also in nature. They regularly open its doors to events related to ecological preservation and they even build the only playground for children just in front of the hostel at the beach.||||The Hostel is rustical and a bit aged, the rooms and bathrooms are clean and simple, but due to the high humidity in the air and the building material of the hostel, always a little moist. Its a cozy place with a great atmosphere for a good price. There is a community kitchen one can use at any time. You can also order from the menu of course. And there is free wi-fi and a grill, some hammocks, a few dogs ... you get the picture.||||So we definitely fell in love with Canoa and felt very well staying at Olmito with its charismatic flair, its story and its people, we had a really great time there and would always want to...
Read moreI followed a friends recommendation and visited Canoa while travelling through Equador and was super happy for having found the Olmito Hotel. It is located straight on the beach with incredible sunsets just in front of the house. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and could advise us on tours to remote beaches and into the forest as well as organise for boat trips alongside the coast. The breakfast is included and perfect to start the day (coffee, eggs, bread, avocado, juices etc.) while lunch/almuerso is optional, easy, affordable ($3) and fresh. Our room was, very spacious and clean, and hammocks are pretty much everywhere to be found on the area. The vibe is super chilled and easy, I’d definitely recommend it...

Irresistable for that price! rooms for more persons or single- and doublerooms for more privacy, lockers and - very nice - mosquito nets. Small, “not so perfect“ details like selfmade wooden signs for me make the place more individual.|Down in the lovlely relaxed outdoor lounge I enjoyed a self-picked coconut while chilling the whole day in a hammock! You can also lend a surfboard to explore the warm waves of the Pacific Ocean.|Shops, restaurants and laundry service are really nearby (5min walk). Teally...
