Hostal Puerto Polo is a great place to stay when you are in San Clemente if you are looking for solid, comfortable, clean lodging right on the beach. So if that is what you are looking for, the rooms are very good. If you are looking for five star accommodation, the Palmazul Hotel is just down the road for 3 times the nightly rate.||||Amenities vary by room type, so when making your reservation, know what you are looking for:||beach view||hot water||cable TV||air conditioning||etc.||||Beach view rooms do not have A/C, but in fairness, they don't need it. The direct breeze off the ocean is incredible. But they may also not have hot water. And that may be important to you. We aren't in San Clemente to watch TV, but some people may want to relax in the evening to their favorite show.||||The hostal is near the center of town, so close too the restaurants and pubs. Make sure to stay over a Saturday night, and spend the evening in the town center. The town comes alives with activity and fun.||||Try the different restaurants all the way through San Jacinto. Walk the beach from one end to the other at low tide.||||Sleep quality is rated average because of the dogs barking during the night and early morning. But dogs are an issue everywhere in Ecuador. In addition, the hostal can host some guests with loud parties. But these only affect those who go to bed early. Things are quiet by 22:00 to 23:00.||||Reserve early. We reserve in the fall for the next summer, to get our choice of rooms.||||But above all, what makes Hostal Puerto Polo special is the manager, caretaker and matron, Cathy. She has a smile on her face from morning to night ... which can't be easy, given the job. She cooks breakfast, tends to all the rooms and looks after the guests. Anything you need, she is there. She is a very special lady!||||This was our second visit to San Clemente, and staying at Hostal Puerto Polo. That is probably the best reference of all.||||If you are looking for things to do other than the beach, take the local bus to the Charapoto market on Sunday mornings. Portoviejo, with better shopping, is also only a bus ride away. Bahia's new mall will be built soon, but a trip to Bahia by bus is also fun! ALL these bus rides are between $0.35...
Read moreWe spent two nights at this Hostal, in San Clemente, during the festivities of "Virgen del Cobre". The original room we were assigned, had a bad smell in the bathroom, hence we requested a change of room, which we obtained arguing hardly with the owner, altought the hostal was almost empty. The new room was in better shape. |Expensive for the category of Hostal, we were charged $30 per person, $5 more that the original room, in a room for four people, this is $120 per night!!!!!! We find this price rather expensive in comparison with similar categories of hostels in the coast of Manabi, Ecuador. |Breakfast was not offered, but we insisted due to the high cost, and we were served on the first morning with "encebollado" , which is a sort of heavy fish soup, not bad.|Wi fi signal very poor, but free. Color tv in the room but with no...
