The location is great, the bed is just ok, the room is very small, breakfast is not included, the staff is horrible. Please be aware of the fact that they DO NOT accept ANY type of credit or debit cards. I know this is a developing country, BUT, when you are in the middle of a hot tourist spot and you don't tell people who are used to paying with plastic, until they check out that that you don't accept credit cards, this is just bad business. ||||When we went to check out and asked for a factura, which is a basic thing, they raised the price $2 per person per night. This is because they DO NOT PAY THEIR TAXES. We told them that the 3 times we asked the price before we came, they said $15 per person per night, no special deal. When we go to check out it goes up to $17 per person per night because of the factura. Please note: ALL businesses in Ecuador are supposed to pay taxes on what they make and the prices ALWAYS include those taxes. ||||The lady at the desk said her sister gave the $15 as a special price. But three times? I asked the girl to call her sister and she said she doesn't have a phone. How can the owner of a hotel not have a phone? She was clearly lying for selfish gain. If a business chooses to make their price not including tax, then they are required by law to say it doesn't include tax. The only people that say one price and then raise it if you want a factura are those that are trying to avoid paying their taxes because all facturas go to the government to assure correct tax is being paid.||||So if you want a good location to stay at $15 per person per night, and you travel with cash and you don't expect clean towels or good service then stay here. Otherwise, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. ||||We informed the business this review would be left and that SRI (the IRS of Ecuador) would be contacted to file a complaint which could result in the business being closed...
Read moreWe have family in Cotacachi and visit often from the states. This is our go-to guest house run by a wonderful local family in the heart of town. Doesn't look like much from the front, but lovely courtyard layout inside with natural lighting. The rooms are spacious, clean and the water is hot and water pressure good, which is a big deal in this area. Wifi strong. The price is very , very affordable. The place can be a bit noisy, because restaurant is right below, but it is worth it to be here and have a safe, clean place with decent beds in the heart of town. Nice restaurant is adjacent. The family is extremely helpful and accomodating. My mother in law had a recent injury and needed some extra help and they were constantly fretting over her, which we appreciated. We also arrived at 1AM from Quito one night and they were there and waiting for us. I recommend calling the phone # direct for reservations since they are not too tech savvy, but respond great to phone calls and make reservations. A slam dunk for the price, location and...
Read moreI have stayed at Kimbala for four of the last five weeks. This is my fifth visit to Cotacochi.||||I recommend this hostal. The family that operates this facility is great. Constant smiles and friendly greetings. I have also enjoyed breakfast, lunch and dinner. All were good and the prices reasonable.||||Many of the prior reviews are simply unreasonable. I have stayed at 30+ hostals in Ecuador. One, maybe two accepted credit cards. Noisy? Welcome to Ecuador. Roosters crow at the crack of dawn, dogs bark at night, fireworks are common and they do really like their car alarms here. This noise level at this hostel is typical and acceptable, especially considering that it is located mid-town. If you need more luxury stay up the street at La Mirage for $240/night.||||Make sure you scroll down to other reviews. I agree with Yvette's (from Wyoming) review.||||Overall this is a reasonably clean, convenient and friendly place to stay, all at...
