Tagua Lodge is a very laid back, budget lodging in Manglaralto. It is a beautiful 1/2 hour walk along the beach to Montanita. You can collect beautiful shells and rocks along your way. Tagua Lodge has all you need to cook your own meal and you can keep things in the refrigerator. The owner, Luis, is so very attentive and helped me in any way he could. There are great conversations around the communal table and Luis shared some of the native foods like yucca. He loves his coffee so if you are coming to stay bring him some coffee, I say. The town of Manglaralto is a little Ecuadorian bedroom community. The people are very friendly and all say hi as they walk by. There are a few little grocery stores and a street vendor around the corner that sells chicken and hot fries for $2.00. There are also a few places that serve Almuerzo..the Ecuadorian lunch that definitely fills you up for $2.50 to $3.00. If you want to lose track of time, beach comb, talk to some interesting people and stay in a very nice budget hostal with a wonderful owner...Tagua Lodge is your place. Luis introduced me to yucca "pizza" and made a delicious plantain bread ..think banana bread. I highly recommend it and would go back in a heartbeat. I know I'll be back. It feels like home when you've been out wandering for a day...and nice to come back to the peacefulness after a day in Montanita...just walk down the beach. You can also take a taxi for $1.50 but why would you want to do that when you have the beach to yourself (just about) and you can wade in the warm water all along the...
Read moreSpent 10 days or so at Luis' and thoroughly enjoyed his company and property.||||The rooms are rustic and simple, but they are more than comfortable and spotlessly clean. All rooms have mossie nets, and in truth, they are needed as there are a few in town.||||The outdoor communal area is really lovely. There is a well equipped kitchen and comfortable seats and hammocks.||||Luis is a fantastic host - warm hearted, funny and generous. He showed us around town when we arrived and we often had a sunset beer or two at the great bar overlooking the beach (Beach Bar) or later at Playa de James. ||||Manglaralto is a quiet and relaxed village about 25 mins walk along the beach from Montanita. Its beach is very quiet and beautiful (and less affected by the tides than elsewhere), and if you want a party, it only takes 5 mins in a taxi to Montanita.||||We wish we could have returned before heading to Peru. An absolute gem of a host in Louis and a superb welcoming...
Read moreI had the pleasure of staying at Tagua Lodge for a week. I can't thank hosts Luis and Katy enough for making me feel so welcome, at ease and feel as though it were my home away from home. I loved my tidy, spacious room with on suite bathroom and comfy bed, opening the shutters up in the morning to a beautiful garden and making breakfast in the orderly and well-equipped shared kitchen. As I was travelling alone, it was great chatting to Luis or Katy in the morning, both informative, funny and willing to help with any queries. The wi-fi was great and I had access in my room, as well as the shared areas which included the hammocks. It is one of the few places I've stayed in Ecuador, where I was able to communicate in English. Manglaralto is really relaxed and a lovely community, beside the ocean. It is also close to Dos Mangas which has a great hike up to a waterfall. Gracias amigos, un gusto compartiendo...
