Overall:||Highly recommend this place. It is in a tranquil, beautiful spot very close to the beach. The hosts are lovely, kind people and will make sure you are taken care of and have the customized vacation that you are looking for. You will see friendly, smiling faces (in both the guests and the staff) and enjoy your stay.||||Room:||The accommodations are very pleasant - clean rooms, hot showers, high quality, comfortable beds, WiFi, etc., and the property is very well-managed. ||||Food:||The food was delicious and varied (fish, ceviche, shrimp, chicken, veggies, soups, so many fresh, tropical fruits, etc.). They asked us what we liked and provided wonderful meals. We never had any stomach issues the entire week we were there.||||Surfing:||Sebastian was our friendly, bilingual host and surf guide and took my friend and I surfing every single day. The surfing spots either were completely empty or had a small number of people over a very long stretch on a beach break and it was never crowded. If you want to go surfing twice a day, he will take you out and figure out the best spots given the wave conditions. He provided very skillful coaching, including video coaching which is very helpful in seeing how to make improvements. They can provide you boards if you let them know if advance what you use. Tip - check the forecast for water temperature, know your comfort level and pack accordingly. ||||Other Activities:||We went whale watching and saw many humpback whales up close - (June through Sept. is the best time for this activity)!. We also went horse-back riding along the beach, through the local town, and passed along some scenic hills. There are lots of activities to chose from as listed on the website and the hosts will hook you up with any activity you would like to do.||||You will not be disappointed! This is truly a lovely...
Read moreMy parents, a friend and I stayed at Guachapeli for a few days in May. The owners, Sebastian and Alex could not have been more accomodating and friendly. Sebastian even coordinated a couple of surfing lessons from a local expert and told us about an incredible, nearby small beach town nestled between two mountains with a spectacular view of the ocean and a few really good restaurants. ||||The rooms were very clean and had a lovely view of the beach. Clean bathrooms with hot water, comfortable beds and pillows, AC, fans, hammocks in the balcony. My parents took the ground-level room to avoid the steps to the second-floor bedroom, and all was well. We were able to have a small fridge put in my parent's bedroom where we could keep snacks and cold beverages. ||||Breakfast was delicious and the coffee abundant. We usually explored the area for lunch and dinner, but our last meal was at the hotel, and it was a lovely sopa de verde. ||||The hotel is about two blocks from the beach, along a very quiet dirt side road that dead-ends at the sand and a thatched-roof hut to hide from the sun. From the beach you can walk to Las Tunas (about 10 min) or Ayampe (maybe 30 minutes). At Las Tunas I highly recommend El Manglar for delicious, abundant seafood as well as several hammocks where you can digest your meal and watch he waves. Ayampe is considerably more populated than Las Tunas and has several more (really good) restaurants and bars but was not the speed we were looking for. ||||Thank you Alex and Sebastian for a lovely vacation, and we hope to be back...
Read moreI write this review very late. I stayed at hosteria Gauchapeli in feb. of 2016. This hostel came highly recommended by a close friend, native Ecuadorian and I am not, in the least disappointed.||In comparison to Mantanita just 30 or 40 miles south, this hostel is so very relaxed and much more family friendly., also a lot more accommodating to the individuals needs as well. So no para sailing and rum shots, on the streets here but you can surf, eat a delicious, healthy meal AND carry on a pleasant conversation, with the wonderful hosts here!||The hosts Alex and Sebastian will make sure you have every thing you need. They are brilliant at the accommodations game!|This is immediately evident upon arriving at hosteria Gauchapeli. These two know of every decent attraction in a 100 mile range|and will do everything, in their power to make sure you have a wonderful experience there.||The rooms are spacious. VERY clean. Actual, reliable hot water. Hammocks on the patio. Certainly more pricey than the classic $8/$6 hostel but SO MUCH more “posh”! To be truthful, one of the nicest hotels/hostels I’ve ever stayed at. No raw pipe sticking through a tiled wall, no head, no hot water($8 hostel). ||Hosteria Gauchapeli is a family friendly, conversation friendly, rest and relaxation friendly “get away” hostel/hotel that is not that far away from anything!||HIGHLY...
