Hostal Terra 2 - El Condado — Hotel in Ponceano

I had a quick opportunity for a trip to Quito to visit some friends and do a little mission work come up. The airline had a fare sale and I was ready to go. The only catch was the cost of lodging. What was I going to do about a hotel. An unplanned vacation on the cheap falls apart real quickly when you have to shell out $150 - $200 a night for a hotel. Enter Hostal Terra 2. ||||This unassuming little hostel is in North Quito in a fairly secure area. It is a five minute walk from shopping and restaurants and right on a main avenue. Upon arriving, I noted the substantial security gates and the very young staff waiting to assist me.||||This is no frills lodging at its best. You won't be able to order a meal here, but they'll happily sell you a soda or the biggest bottle of beer I've ever had. The rooms are private, with private bathrooms. The hot water always ran and the hotel was remarkably quiet for a hostel. I'm mid 40s and did not feel out of place at all.||||The bed was a little soft, but the sheets were clean, as were the floors and the towels were changed daily. The room was surprisingly spacious with cable TV that worked and had a number of English language channels. The free wireless internet worked without fail and the signal was strong. Closet space was abundant, if a little rickety looking. But guys, I paid $16 a night. That isn't a typo. I stayed four nights and plopped down a whopping $64. Don't expect English speaking staff. Don't expect room service. But expect a room about on a par with a Motel 6, but with a lot more room and all interior entrances behind solid security.||||I'll be going back to Quito -- the city is great. And when I do, I will stay here again...

Quisiera comentar dos cosas y presentar algunos documentos adicionales.

1. Actualmente, parece que la situación eléctrica en la zona donde se encuentra este hotel no es buena. Cuando llegué al hotel la noche del 13 de octubre, no había electricidad. Al preguntar al personal, me informaron que debido a problemas eléctricos, hubo un corte de energía programado. Como resultado, no había agua, por lo que no pude ducharme ni cargar mi teléfono esa noche. A pesar del apagón, el hotel no tomó ninguna medida para iluminar la habitación. Recomiendo a los viajeros que planeen alojarse en la zona norte de Quito que consideren esta situación y lo verifiquen antes de hacer su reserva, ya que podrían enfrentarse a una situación similar.

2. Cuando llegué al hotel por la noche, debido al corte de electricidad, el personal no intentó verificar mi identidad, probablemente porque no podían usar la computadora. Entonces, les mostré mi pasaporte. Después, me pidieron 51 USD por una noche (el 13 de octubre), pero yo había reservado el hotel por 14,79 USD (COP 62.700). Pagué los 51 USD y, tras irme, me di cuenta de que me habían engañado. Esto es un hecho objetivo.

El hotel afirma que cambié mi estadía de 1 noche a 3 noches (13, 14 y 15 de octubre), lo que justifica el cobro de 51 USD, pero quiero aclarar que no tenía ningún motivo para cambiar mi itinerario. En primer lugar, ya tenía una reserva para el 14 de octubre en el 'Viajero Quito Hostel', así como una reserva para el 'Quito City Bus Tour'. En segundo lugar, ya tenía reservado un vuelo de Quito a Colombia para el 15 de octubre. Dado este contexto, no tenía ninguna razón para modificar mi itinerario. Por lo tanto, la afirmación del hotel de que cambié mi estadía y que esto justificaba el cobro de 51 USD es completamente falsa.

Solicito al hotel que reconozca su error y reembolse los 34 USD. Todos pueden cometer errores, pero se necesita valentía para admitirlos y corregirlos. Si no lo hacen, inevitablemente tendrán que tergiversar la verdad y decir más mentiras para sostener su postura.

We've booked at this place twice now for a total of 3 nights, and will probably stay again if we need a place in the north. The price is very affordable at $19 for a room with a double bed and private bathroom. Shampoo and hand soap is provided but they only give one towel for two people, and no hand towels. I have not tried asking for more towels as my husband and I have no problem sharing. Staff has always been friendly and attentive, especially when allowing us in and out of the property. I feel very safe as the property is gated and locked. I would recommend if you need a cheap place close to the Ofelia...
