Hostal Rincón Alemán — Hotel in Riobamba

We were so glad we booked Rincon Aleman, as it is wonderfully quiet and peaceful, unlike the town centre. There is a garden with tables and chairs to relax, where hummingbirds hum, and a rooftop patio where you can gaze at Volcan Chimborazo (highest mountain in Ecuador) even if the view is partially spoilt by somebody thoughtlessly putting a water tank atop a new apartment building a couple of blocks away.||||Owner Elena was wonderfully welcoming, and our room was large with a view up towards the mountain. The bathroom was big too. Breakfast was very good. Elena even gave us a lift into the centre when she was going in that direction.||||The only slight negative, and it only just prevented me awarding 5/5, was that the water ran out. It was fixed fairly quickly, by switching to the other...

We were booked here by a travel agency. The rooms are big and clean but there is no soundproofing, so any noise being made by other guests (especially in the courtyard) is really disruptive. Also you have to be physically let in and out of the compound... Feels a little like being imprisoned when you're inside, and sometimes coming back from outside it takes 5 minutes or more for someone to hear you ringing the bell at the gate to get in. They also advertise free private parking but it is only at night. The breakfast is good and it's a pretty location with a nice rooftop terrace, but the atmosphere was too uptight and weird for my taste. It is also pretty far outside the city center and expensive compared to other highly rated hotels or rentals...

Elena is such a wonderful host. I truly enjoyed my stay, it felt like I was part of the family. What a wonderful peaceful place to spend a few days, yet, only a few minutes away from the lively city centre. The room was large and bright, the bed perfect, the breakfast delicious with fresh fruits and daily changing fresh smoothies - is there a better way to start the day? The quiet and sunny garden is the right place to recharge the batteries. It was possible to have food delivered directly to the hotel from neighboring restaurants.
