This was the worst hotel experience of my life. I was traveling with seven Ecuadorians (1 of them a baby) and ten americans. We arrived and the first impression of the room was it was dirty. I felt sand all over the floor and none of us had been to the beach yet. We immediately noticed little bugs all over the furniture, floor, everywhere. This was Friday night. By the time we went to sleep, we had these bugs on our towels, in our makeup bags, in our backpacks, etc. Saturday was our first day--we had the continental breakfast that was very small and not good. We were out all day and then returned in the evening. I had noticed they did room service but barely: the sheets had not be changed but simply turned over and folded again. The room was not any cleaner. We were getting ready to go out again, and my friend noticed she had bites on her that looked like bed bugs. We went downstairs to talk to the office and they said all they could do was talk to their manager tomorrow and they could spray tonight for bugs after we left. We wanted to change rooms but they didn't have anything open. We went out and came back around midnight. The bugs were still everywhere and this time they had taken our hotel towels and not replaced them. This was Sunday morning and we were to check out around noon. I went to talk to the manager because I wanted my money back for my hotel room. It was 224 dollars total for 2 nights and she said she could give me 50 dollars. I was like hell no. Then she got it up to 100. I said I wanted 50 percent. She finally relented after I showed her more bites on other people and complained about the dirtiness of the room and also how this situation is dangerous because all these bugs are in our bags and we can take them back to Guayaquil with us and even to the U.S. (Note that this was all in Spanish). So we got 50% of the room back and it was time to check out. We had a bus to catch. As we were trying to leave, they were doing room service and came down and said there was 1 towel missing from one of our rooms. I asked everyone staying in that room and no one said they had accidentally taken it. (If you take a towel with you, you get charged). My friend went up to look and found it wedged between a bed and the wall-- as if the room service people hid it there on purpose to get more money out of us, since we had gotten a little bit of a discount. My friends in the room did not put it there. So finally that was resolved that the found the missing towel. We were trying to leave once again and they came to us yet again saying a towel was missing from someone else's room. I went back and my Ecuadorian friend and his wife with a three month old baby was showing the manager and the room service people that he had not taken a towel-- he pulled out his luggage to show them. They had to argue with the hotel over a little towel. They were missing a towel in the room because at night when they did room service, they took the towels out of the room and did not put more back. That happened to my room too. They were just trying to get money out of us. Do NOT stay at this hotel. Worst experience of my life. It...
Read moreThe location is good in that it's close to the beach but away from noise. I reserved a room through an online booking service and paid way too much. I was in the lobby several times when people came in off the street asking for a room. The price quoted to them was much lower than what I paid. The room was way too basic for the price I paid. It was fair for the lower price others were paying. Just remember that there's 24% tax added to the price they quote.||||There is a sign at the front desk saying that they are not responsible for valuables and suggesting that valuables be placed in the hotel safe. I took the suggestion seriously. I put most of my money, my passport, credit cards, tablet and kindle in the hotel safe when I went to the beach. Imagine my surprise when I tried to access my things in the late afternoon and was told that the manager was the only one who could open the safe! She had gone home and the next day was her day off! Gulp! However, they expected her to stop by in the morning. I did catch her and got my things back, but it had been a long boring night without either my tablet or kindle. It doesn't make sense to advise guests to put things in the safe, then not provide access to those things. The manager has responsibility for four hotels and is only there sporadically. Someone else needs to be able to open the safe.||||When I first arrived there were no towels in my room. Someone did bring me one, but it disappeared when the room was cleaned the next day. I notified the front desk that I needed a towel, but never got one. I had two beds, but only needed one. I used the extra sheet to dry off.||||The password I was given for the internet was wrong. I stood at the front desk while a young man tried to help me connect. He didn't even notice that the password his coworker had written down was incorrect. We tried and tried. When I couldn't get a connection I used their computer, then put my tablet in the safe and went to the beach. After getting my tablet back the next day and failing to connect I wondered if the password would work with all lower case letters rather than starting with a capital letter, as was given to me. Yes, that worked. It would be good if the employees knew the password!||||I had asked for the name and phone number of a spa so I could make an appointment for a massage. The girl at the desk was going to get that while I was at the beach. When I came back 3 and a half hours later she still didn't know. She said she'd find out and call my room. I never got a call. She went to lunch instead. I came downstairs and interrupted her lunch. I got sent on a wild goose chase to a hospital where supposedly I would get a massage. When I got there I was in a physical therapy department with a screaming child and various people in for treatment. Not exactly what I had in mind. That trip was a complete waste of my time and $8.00 round trip taxi fare. The therapist said he'd call the hotel to arrange a proper massage after he got off work at 5:00. Of course, he never did call.||||Breakfast was rather average. The service was quick. The bed was comfortable, but the...
Read moreRecently stayed 4 nights at Marvento Suites in Salinas. The name of the property is a bit of a misnomer, as none of the rooms are suites. The rooms are adequately furnished. Only minimal towels, pillows and basic sheets are provided in the room. If you wanted extra, you had to ask for them. The hotel was okay with our dogs, provided we had a kennel for them. It seems that staff morale is fairly low and this is reflected in the limited customer service you receive and lack of positive demeanour from the staff. This was especially true with regard to the restaurant staff. The breakfast at the restaurant was very minimal – scrambled eggs with ham bits, a bun with jam, instant coffee and juice. After our first morning breakfast, we decided to eat elsewhere for the remainder of our stay. Would not recommend staying in room #7. This room has only two small windows one in the bathroom and one interior window looking into a storage room. Parking is available about ½ block away. The couple we were travelling with stayed on the 4th floor. They did not have hot water for the entire 4 nights. This is despite advising the hotel staff about this several times. However, our room was on the 2nd floor and we had no issues...
