We are in southern Ecuador for an extended period and were looking for a place to escape and relax for a week. Madre Tierra was recommended to us by a friend and the experience did not disappoint! ||They focus their offerings on folks who want to stay a week or longer and have some guests who have been there for many months. The place is rustic and quaint, but still has all the modern amenities. We stayed in room 9 at the top of the hill (it’s a hike) which had a nice patio with a table and sweeping views of the valley below—a great location to hang out, play cards, have a snack, or read a book. The room came with comfortable beds and a hot shower, and the cool Vilcabamba night air was perfect for a great night’s sleep.||They can schedule a variety of spa services on site for very reasonable prices. The property also has a small pool that is fed by a nice waterfall feature. The pool is on the cold side so it is best reserved for particularly hot afternoons. There is also an activities room that doesn’t seem to get much use but has a ping pong table as well as projection and audio equipment to do a movie night. Overall, the property is lush with foliage and very peaceful, it is just a great place to unwind. For those who need to work when travelling, Internet quality was generally very good.||The personal cook option is really excellent and I would recommend eating most meals on the property. In the morning they offer a bunch of breakfast options and really good coffee. Dinners are creative, hearty, freshly cooked and delicious! Basic bar fare is also available.||A mile away, Vilcabamba is a sleepy little town that is good for an afternoon stroll, and there is plenty to explore in the surrounding valley; consider having lunch at the Trout Farm in San Pedro and your fish will go from pool to plate in under 15 minutes. Some food options you might consider in Vilcabamba include: fish tacos at Agave Blu, yucca fries UFO, fudge at Beverly Hills Cafe, and baked goods at La Baguette.||I highly recommend Madre Tierra for extended stays in...

The food service is really excellent and I would recommend eating most meals on the property, if they are serving. In the morning they have a nice breakfast menu and really good coffee; most people can fill their bellies for five bucks or less. Dinners are creative, hearty, and freshly cooked. Basic bar fare is also available.

Read moreMadre tierra is a fitting name! You feel you are one with nature when staying here. You are surrounded by mountains, beautiful plants, trees, flowers and the views are spectacular. The room I was in was the superior queen garden view and it felt like a 5 star hotel. Toilet is in its own room separate from sink which is a plus. The shower was beautiful and good size! And the terrace had a hammock and some of the most beautiful views of the town and nature. The breakfast is included and really good...standard is eggs or oatmeal and you can buy other food items as well. The french toast looked amazing! I did try their cacao smoothie made with raw cow milk. I’m lactose intolerant and this gave me no averse reactions. Might have been the best cacao smoothie EVER! They also have a beautiful spa with breathtaking views, unfortunately I did not get a chance to partake in their services. You should though! They also have viewpoints and a small library! Their pool is so nice, it has cascading waterfalls and the sound of the water puts you in a state of tranquility. That’s where I spent most of the weekend, lounging, swimming, doing yoga! It’s a beautiful space! If you want to get away from it all and be relaxed and rejuvenated...Madre Tierra is the place for you. Also the town is only a 20 min walk away or 1.5 usd taxi. The staff is amazing and make you feel at home especially Ryan and Gail. Thank you for everything! 100 % Recommend! Do not miss out on this beautiful experience when...
