Our most recent stay at this hotel was not only upsetting but has left us genuinely distressed. I cannot believe the lack of professionalism, respect, and most importantly basic safeguarding that we encountered.
We booked two rooms as a family, expecting a smooth and respectful welcome. Instead, I was met with inappropriate request at check-in: I was asked to present my marriage certificate despite the fact that we were clearly travelling together as a family ( couple + child + grandmother). I’m absolutely convinced this would never have happened had I been holding a foreign passport. But because I had an Arab passport, I was treated differently. This blatant discrimination is unacceptable and shows an alarming lack of training.
To make matters worse, I wasn’t just asked to show my marriage certificate I was told to email a copy of it to the hotel. This is a serious breach of personal privacy, and I’m honestly still stunned that such a request could be made in 2025.
However, nothing prepared us for what happened next.
In the afternoon, we left our young son under the supervision of his grandmothe in the hotel restaurant. During this time, she waited over 45 minutes for food, and the juice they charged her for never even arrived. But the worst and most disturbing moment came when she asked about the ice cream ordered for my son. Then the waiter took my son away from her without asking, without informing her, and walked off with him out of sight.
Let that sink in: a hotel employee physically removed a child from the care of his guardian without consent. My mother-in-law was horrified. She had to shout in panic, not knowing where he had been taken or by whom. This is not just unacceptable it is outright dangerous and would be considered a serious safeguarding violation in any country that values child protection and guest safety.
When she asked to speak with a manager, a staff member named Shimaa came over. Instead of taking the situation seriously, she dismissed the concern entirely. She told my mother-in-law: “This is Egypt, not the UK,” and claimed that our son was safe because there were cameras and that the staff had “good intentions.”
Let me be absolutely clear: good intentions do not excuse crossing physical and parental boundaries, and they certainly do not excuse taking a child without permission. Shimaa’s comments were gaslighting. Rather than apologise or show any understanding of how serious the situation was, she tried to defend it and gaslight us.
This entire experience was deeply disturbing. As a mother, I will never trust this hotel again. And as someone who frequently travels with family, I urge all parents especially those with young children to avoid this hotel altogether.
Movenpick is supposed to be a name associated with quality and security. But what we experienced was the exact opposite. There is no proper safeguarding, no respect for privacy, and no accountability from staff when serious concerns are raised.
This hotel has failed on every level. Disgraceful. Truly...
Read moreLet me preface this by saying how disappointed I am that not even hotels are safe for women anymore.
Me and a friend of mine went out to a restaurant at this hotel to celebrate her birthday and we were having a really good time until a team of foreign basketball players (hotel residents) walked by to the outdoor area and one of them (no. 5) lifted his phone up and pointed to it, basically asking for me/my friend's number.
We walked into the hotel lobby and went into the bathroom and the player no. 5 sat on the couch right in front of it basically waiting for us, we called a male friend of ours and asked him to pretend to pick us up, put him on speaker for the player to hear, then we pretended to walk out and he left.
We went to security and told them what had happened, and they told us they would take it into consideration, we walk out to the outdoor area, and two other teammates follow us again and verbally hit on us.
Us being done with this we tell them to leave us alone and yell at them, and they do. On our way out, a security guard asks us if anything else happened and we tell him that we got followed, he reiterates the question saying, 'yes but did any problem occur?' I say, 'being followed and verbally harassed in itself is a problem' and at this point I realize he's basically indirectly asking us if they physically harassed us...
Then he tells us that we're not even supposed to be at the outdoor area since we're not residents, which we didn't know about because there were no signs, and no one had told us about that.
But my question is, us being guests at the restaurant and not hotel residents means that it's totally fine that we get stalked and verbally harassed and that no professional action gets done?? And after all, we were on hotel grounds when this had happened so yes, our safety is supposed to be the hotel's responsibility!
I am deeply disappointed in how poorly this situation was handled. While I realize a hotel cannot control its guest's actions, they should've provided a safer environment.
This isn't the Mövenpick I know (from visiting its red sea branches previously) and it's upsetting that this is the level of safety at a 5-star hotel Response: Dear Ms. Shimaa, Thank you for your concern. I’d be happy to discuss this further, but I wasn’t able to find your contact details. Could you please...
