Buckle in because this is long review!|This was our first time in Egypt in Sept 2025, and would whole heartedly return in a heartbeat. ||Makadi bay is absolutely beautiful, it was around 30-40 mins from the airport. There’s security going in and the little resort felt extremely safe. ||Steigenberger Makadi was 100% our favourite all inclusive we have been to. Every single member of staff was extremely friendly and professional, nothing was too much trouble. The food was even better than some UK restaurant quality, made me realise how unseasoned our food really is. Amazing selection every night. We even had a meal by the pool with a violinist one night which included a 4 course pre order meal. One trip to an al a carte restaurant within the resort, the staff take you down and pick you up. We chose a Thai restaurant which was incredible and again, staff were extremely welcoming and hospitable. ||The beach was lovely, as previous reviewers it’s not the softest of beaches but the little corals make up for it. Steigenberger own a portion of the beach and with it been an adults only hotel the beach was child free in our section. Had some visits from the camels which was great to see. All drinks and a meal at the beach bar was included with our all inclusive. ||The cocktails staff made were lovely, a wide selection with friendly staff making them. I must admit the wine wasn’t great (boyfriend informs me the beer wasn’t great either) but this wasn’t un-drinkable and the cocktails more than made up for it. ||We took a day trip to Eden beach which I would 100% recommend. We booked through our TUI rep and it was so well organised and felt very safe. It was like a little island paradise and snorkelling in the corals in the Red Sea is something we will never forget. ||The hotel was immaculately maintained, the staff are always hard at work keeping the standard so high. The golf course which was STUNNING is meticulously maintained and had several groundmen working on it daily. Boyfriend informs me it’s a hard course so probably not great for beginners but stunning all the same. ||I must add a special mention to Ahmad from the housekeeping staff who was genuinely one of the sweetest souls I’ve ever met. It was always a pleasure to see him on an evening. Also Adanob from breakfast who always served us coffee on a morning with the biggest smile and always cheerful. The general manager Moustafa came out to see us before we left to personally say bye which was a lovely little touch and a true reflection on how lovely the staff are there.||We swapped rooms from a poolside to a double with a sea view which was drop dead gorgeous. We woke up early to see the sun rise a couple of days which would also recommend, it was like no sunrise I’d seen before. ||I probably wouldn’t venture out of the complex, it did have everything you need in there, shops, ATMs pharmacy’s etc. (beware it is quite expensive, I paid around £14 for some very budget feminine products!!). I didn’t hear great things on the Eden beach trip about experiences trying to walk through the Marina on a night but never did this so couldn’t be sure.||But in conclusion if you’re thinking of Egypt, do it! Can’t believe we haven’t before now and will definitely be returning. I don’t normally like returning to resorts I’ve already been to but would make an exception for Steigenberger Makadi. Take tips as the staff are always so so grateful for these and are very well deserved. Huge thank you to all the staff and management for making our first trip to Egypt so enjoyable...
Read moreFor the first time ever I can’t fault this hotel, it really was a wonderful holiday. I haven’t stayed in such a small hotel before (93 rooms I believe) but I think this hotel might have changed my view in this.
The staff were faultless, they remembered both mine and my partners names from day 1 and our room number, which was really impressive! All the staff were great but to name a few who were particularly good were Azim on reception (very helpful), Yahia the pool guy. So lovely, took my lilo from me on day 1 and brought it to me every day and put it away again when I’d finished with it. Always smiling, always friendly. Ahmed, the service manager in the restaurant was the smiliest person I’ve been seen and genuinely wanted to help all the time. The head chef was always around and the young egg lad who lovingly made my smoked salmon and poached eggs each morning was always smiling despite being very busy. Karim in the restaurant outside was always offering drinks and the yoga / aqua aerobics man was very good too. The cleaning staff were great and I loved the elephant, sloth and monkey towels left for us at varying times. We started in room 6109 which was a lovely room but my partner, for my birthday got us an upgrade to a suite for a 24 hour period and it was so amazing we decided to stay! It was HUGE, with its own pool on a large terrace with fabulous views. Room 6616 - I’d recommend it. We went half board and this worked well for us as we don’t have lunch anyway. Big brekkie and a delicious dinner was plenty! Always lots of choice with 3 specials on the menu every evening. The house white wine could be better for sure though! We took Ubers everywhere and they were cheap and easy. Lots of drivers message asking for more money, just cancel them and go to the next driver as they will turn up and it’s really cheap. Cost us £1.30 to get to Senzo Mall whereby you could get a ‘tour’ for £15 each! Just tip and you’ll be fine with them. We did a stargazing trip, jeep and camel ride, snorkelling trip and quad biking and all the trips were cheap and excellent. There’s a shopping centre in Senzo Mall so if you go half board you can get your soft drinks here. We also did a trip to Cleopatra spa in Hurghada, about 30 mins away by Uber and we had a 2.5 hour Turkish bath, massage etc for £20 each!! Uber was only about £2 each way too. Bargain!
Remember Egypt is a dry country so you can get alcohol in hotel but not out and about. We (luckily) bought 2 litres of pink gin in the airport and drunk it over the 2 week holiday. If we hadn’t done this it would have cost us a lot more.
What more can I add. The entertainment was ok. Not much to do past 10pm and the hotel is not really near any nightlife. The beach we didn’t bother with as it didn’t look too nice and I prefer a pool anyway.
The General Manager was around every evening at dinner and during the day and keen to know If everything was ok. He was very approachable which was nice to see.
It was really the people who make this place (and the weather of course!) and I can see why so many return. Thank you for making this a very special holiday, Pete and I really did have a lovely stay and we...
