The public spaces in the hotel are beautiful! The main lobby is well designed with seating space for waiting during checkin or meeting up with travel friends.
The restaurants are good. We ate at the breakfast buffet daily and tried room service, the Italian restaurant and the steakhouse. The breakfast buffet has a solid variety of options including delicious fresh fruit, unique yogurt options (baked yogurt was amazing!), omelette station (loved the chef here - knew our family order by the 2nd day!), pancakes, deli and cheese bar, cereal bar, fresh drinks bar and an Indian food station. There are a variety of pastries and breads but they were mostly tasteless and dry. The fresh bread however was amazing!!
The facilities are nice - but maintenance is hit or miss. The gym was lovely, but hard to find towels. The indoor pool was nice, but parts of the bridge had fallen into the pool and almost cut our foot. The outside beach was small and littered with trash and broken glass in multiple locations. While I appreciate that this was in the off season, anytime there is broken glass by a water source it is of great alarm!! Shards of glass in the water can lead to blinding if it were to get in someone’s eyes!
The other disappointment for us was the ‘kids club’ which we thought was a kids center and that we’d get a couples massage is actually a pay to play arcade. It has a trampoline and mini rides and video games - but it should truly be called a kids arcade instead of kids club. Parents must remain with their children in the center regardless of age. Tokens are around 10EGP each.
The rooms are well maintained. We stayed in a suite, double level and executive suite. The standard suite was nice but looked like it needed a good once over as the corners were all messy and didn’t strike us as a JW standard. The beds are extremely firm, but surprisingly a good nieces sleep!
The double level rooms were well designed and on the lobby level for easy access. They also have a very handy kitchenette for anyone looking to cook. I also appreciated the upper level for meeting / entertaining while the lower level is for sleeping and cooking.
The executive suite is beautiful. The greeting room is fully wood paneled with ample storage space for luggage and clothing separately. The outdoor furniture in this suite is a significant upgrade to the other rooms and extremely comfortable - with 2 balconies. The bathroom is lovely - though the bathtub is weirdly small for the area. This room also has a large desk and bookshelf in the main greeting room and then a smaller makeup station in the dressing room that could double as a secretaries desk if needed.
The location is great - about 20 min from the airport. Also close to the Hurgada road if this is a stop over before heading to the Red Sea.
Note - I believe it’s a new development with Covid, but talabat cannot come to the hotel- they must wait at the main gate. So be prepared to walk all the way down the driveway (about 2 blocks) to pickup any orders. They do not make exceptions to this which is frustrating - and would be more helpful if they made this clear at checkin.
Overall - the staff is outstanding! Anticipatory to your needs and ready to help with anything you need. This is across the board from the bellmen who welcome you to the checkin staff to those at the restaurants and facilities. If you happen to bump into one who is sub service, literally just ask someone else as the majority are fabulous. Special shout-out for the amazing service of Khalid with morning breakfast service! The breakfast team is truly lovely and busy meeting your needs. Example - they see you grab a yogurt and meet you at the table with a small spoon. I also really appreciated the hostesses who welcomed you and wished you well on your day. Management is visible and constantly checking in with both staff and patrons to ensure highest levels of service. And the omelette chef is superb. Friendly, mindful and a great chef (and clearly a leader on the team, helping to assist and...
Read moreWe had arranged a private car pickup as our flight came in around 11:30pm. Cairo is a BUSY airport! We were so grateful we had someone there as we came down the escalator towards the immigration desk. We had already done our visa's online but you can get your visa on arrival...the line up can be quite long. Once we passed through immigration we waited for our luggage. Mine was one of the first bags off the belt...however, my husbands was almost last...it was a long wait. We found our guide who then took us outside (Which after 12:30 was still BUSY!!! with cabs etc and got our driver to come and help us with the luggage. We got to the hotel in about 15 minutes as there was very little traffic. Once we got to the hotel they had security & a dog sniffer come out to check the car. Then we drove up to the entrance. Our luggage was put through a scanner and we then wen to the front desk to check in. We had someone take us up to the room and show us where were located, it was after 1am when we arrived. The room was lovely, the king sized bed a little hard for me personally but my husband loved it. We were facing the east side of the hotel towards the golf course. We had complete dark out curtains which I was grateful for as we didn't get to bed until about 2am. We headed up to the concierge lounge and had breakfast, lots of choices. Then headed out to the pool area. There are a LOT of pools here. Three for families with one of them containing a beach. A water slide and a more kid friendly one. Lots of loungers and umbrellas. I was impressed they all had life guards as I haven't seen that here in the US for a very long time. We ate by the beach pool and the food was great as were the prices. Sadly I was too full to try the gelato. We then went inside to find the adult pool area. It is on the complete opposite side of the hotel. There is both an indoor and an outdoor pool. The indoor one boasts a beautiful double staircase and mosaic tile wall with columns, very picture worthy! The water is just enough to cool you off which was wonderful. They also have a full spa area and workout area. The outdoor pool is very nice as well. Both have lots of chairs. We used the pool every day after our tours as we got quite hot (it was August after all). A wonderful way to cool down. We used the concierge lounge for our light dinner before bed as we had 2 full days of tours with lots of travel and walking. The food had a great selection, something for everyone....
Read moreWe stayed in 4 hotels while in Egypt: see the bottom. By US standards they are all above 10/10 and one cannot go wrong with any of them.
JW Marriott is an amazing hotel. We stayed in a beautiful executive suite, which looked better than the pictures on Tripadvisor. We enjoyed the ample space, very comfortable furniture, and of course two bathrooms. Heating/cooling worked flawlessly.
The whole property is great, with opulent finishes, and multiple services. The public areas (lobby level, gym, restaurants, are marbles with a lot of elegance, The hotel has multiple swimming pools (regular, beach like, as well as internal/external one). They are heated with perfect temperature. The internal pool is in a fancy shape and look. Gym is among the biggest ones across hotels, with many people eager to politely help. There are free water aerobics classes and a separate building for kids activities.
The service is impeccable, starting with a very efficient and super nice front office. The same applies to cleaning service as well as service in the executive lounge, where everybody was superb.
The breakfast had wonderful service and many dishes. The lounge itself is great, with drinks available all the time. Evening snacks include a nice variety of items with a couple of Egyptian dishes. The food was so great in all 4 hotels. In JW it was clearly above our expectations (maybe a hair short of Hilton Corniche Alexandria and a little bit above Sheraton Cairo, maybe also a little bit above St. Regis).
Lookwise this hotel and St Regis are top. I actually loved JW decor more than St Regis. St Regis was great in perfection of execution: one could find in JW some (small number of) places where workmanship was not perfect, while no such imperfections would be present in St Regis.
The service attitude was beyond amazing. The only minus is that the hotel is not close to the tourist attractions (15-25 km away) -- it is located next to the airport. It should be noted, however, that one cannot look simply at the distance: it has taken us the same time to get from Sheraton Cairo (downtown) to Ramsis Square as from JW Cairo (airport) to Ramsis Square
We would not hesitate to go back to this location.
If I had to rank these hotels, they would all be above perfect: I would rank Hilton Corniche Alexandria 12/10, St Regis Cairo 11.5/10, JW Cairo 11.25, and Sheraton...
