An honest review: a friend shared this hostels Instagram with me and I was drawn by the picture of the “dorms outdoor shower”, which as of right now on my last night here, I’ve yet seen the luxurious version of it that’s posted. The real dorm bathrooms are just regular basic indoor showers with warm ish cold water. There’s outdoor showers, but they have no such fancy waterfall shower heads, if any at all.
the location is quite far away from everything, airport San Salvador la libertad etc, all an hour plus away, so just know that in advance. also that you will have the hike of a lifetime if you decide to take a bus here, from the gate to the actual place is about a ten ROUGH rocky minute drive through a dirt road, so do not attempt by foot.
I absolutely LOVED Pitufo the resident dog, he is just the sweetest dog without being too clingy, and the staff were all very sweet, the food however, feels overpriced for what they are, on par with New York pricing which is kind of crazy given it is el salvador, and that things at Covana, a much fancier resort restaurant about 15 minutes away, is priced less (correctly) for much better food and drinks. this feels a bit taking advantage of their seclusiveness as there is no access to outside food unless you order a car through them which is another whole ordeal.
The beds are comfortable in the dorm and large, just know their AC is not the coldest, so if you get hot, take the bottom bunk, and if you get cold, take the top bunk.
the beach is as amazing as it comes, surrounded by private residences, the water is warm and beautiful, but not walkable to the rest of the beach strips like other hotel resorts along the shore.
overall I think I’d have chosen something closer to the rest of civilization bc the food choices were limited, unless you order large main entrees ($18-22, which is very pricey for el Salvador), you’ll be disappointed (ie. Ordered fish n chips for $12 and got tiny pieces of limp fish chunks with limp fries, chicken wings were 7 tiny chicken wings for $9, you get the idea)
even though Uber is available in most of El Salvador this part of town it is kind of impossible to call for one, better luck in La libertad, almost no issue there.
I think I’d have much more enjoyment of this place if I was more aware of the actual condition and details of the place. Maybe I’m a bit fussy but I think for the quality of food and stay and convenience, I’d rather have chosen Covana’s shared accommodations. But if you value a private beach above all else and average other things, then Lagarza is the...
Read moreIt depends what you are looking for and what your expectations are. Without a car it was a bit of a challenge, getting there by public transportation, so it would be immensely helpful if they wrote all that in the narrative.. . it took me a few hours to get there, and the last bus getting over to the last stretch was gone already, so I was really grateful that I was able to speak to a local elderly gentleman who let me into their ranch where I had to go pee really badly after being on the road for several hours, and he actually dropped me off with his motorcycle in the rain! The place was storming during my time there I only stayed for two nights and then I moved to another place closer further down south, but I understand what the other guy was saying that it was isolated in the middle of nowhere the other guy who had a car and ended up going Drinking and coming back really late at night and couldn’t get back in. Yeah the security people, especially with one of the older gentlemen seems to be immensely grumpy. The day that I arrived, I didn’t make a reservation however I contacted the staff there and told them that I was on my way and where I was coming so we had an active communication already, but the guy still gave me a hard time and had to phone it in before he would even let me in. I had to show him our conversation on WhatsApp. The guest experience could be a lot better perhaps the owner of La Garza needs to take security out for some beer.||For me, I didn’t mind a couple days of R&R being isolated in the middle of nowhere because the rate is actually pretty good and it’s kind of what I need it to decompress from my very hectic and stressful life. ||If you don’t have a car, you basically won’t have much options in terms of food so you would basically eat an order from their menu. It’s the same menu. It’s a small menu and after two days I think I ate most of the stuff on the menu. I’d like to see a couple more things in the menu. It was nice breakfast was included. ||The website when I booked says the meals are $12 but they’re actually a little higher than that so they should update it. E|Trees were about 15 or 16 and the gratuity was automatically added||So you pretty...
Read moreHaving never ventured into El Salvador we were unsure as to where to stay. We are so glad that we chose La Garza Hostel! The location was right on the beach, and the beach was very clean and private. The hostel itself was hygienic, and very well kept! The price for the rooms is very affordable, and the outside bathrooms gives you feeling of the tropical life. I would like to say thank you to Daniel and all of the staff at La Garza! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed graciously, and everyone did their best to accommodate us. The mascot pet, Pitufo, was also very welcoming and made our stay joyful. It was nice to take the little pooch swimming and for walks on the beach. Careful he is sneaky and will try to sneak out :) The staff definitely made our stay there spectacular! We did not rent an automobile, but La Garza made it easy to venture out and try activities. They set up our taxi rides accordingly, and even allowed us to know about the local bus system. La Garza offered surf lessons, massages, and daily tours. The fact that they communicate through WhatsApp throughout our stay was a big plus! They even brought us room service when requested. Overall I give La Garza a 10/10! I will definitely recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a relaxing stay. We look forward to returning. Once again, thank you...
