We were disappointed by this hotel. Initially, we got a great reception but the Manager lost interest after a while until we were looking for transport to get to Bahir Dar!!||Buffet breakfast cold so unless you go there first thing when it has just been laid out - expect Luke warm/cold offerings. The room was ‘fine’ - a bit dark for my liking. The rooms are set back from the restaurant but there is sort of an eerie feeling later in the evening. The Manager organized a transfer to Bahir Dar for us for 50 dollars and a few hours later about 7pm, he suddenly appeared to say that the car could not come and the only one available now was 65 dollars. We held our ground and said that that was too expensive and we would have to get a mini van, he returned and said that he could not get it for 60 dollars and he would pay the extra 5 dollars!!!! We still said no, that was not possible - so miraculously 10 minutes later, he was able to get the car for 50 dollars. This does not leave a good taste in your mouth as I suspect without doubt, he was going to pocket the 15 dollars.....would not stay here again, although I don’t know what you might get...
Read moreI had the intention of staying at Lodge Fasil for seven nights but cut it short and transferred to another hotel because of poor customer service and poor communication. I am a frequent visitor to Gonder but will not stay in this hotel again. I chose this hotel because on their website it mentioned 'family-friendly' and 'every room has TV' and as I was with my 17 month old baby, I thought it'd be perfect. No TVs in any of the rooms and after mentioning this, we had to put up with the noise while they installed them.||One gentleman at Reception was brilliant (sorry don't remember his name, but definitely not Belachew who lacks any common sense or customer service skills).||I'm guessing most of the positive reviews are from visitors who stayed for a short time and may not have noticed Lodge Fasil's...
Read moreI (Ethiopian) had dinner with my girlfriend (French) and we were presented with a bill that was ~40% more costly than what we expected.||||We asked politely this to be clarified and after some heated back and forth we were told that there is a separate menu for white people with more expensive prices. Even after they admitted that, a second waitress baldly demanded we were initially shown white people price (which we were not) and that we should pay the inflated bill. ||||Finally, we paid the bill(as per Ethiopians standard) but owners/manager were not there to solve the problem. But at the end the double standard was designed by the owners themselves (Lodge Fasil).||||I leave the decision to the reader, why or if foreigners should pay...
