Overall we felt ripped off. 1 star because it was so far from 5, and definitely not 4 and I believe it is more reflective of 3 but needs to be reduced on average. Firstly, I didn’t look at the google reviews. I wish I had. The hotel copy and paste responses and there is no variation. If they really do take feedback seriously, it seems they don’t actually do anything about it as the same issues have been reported for a while by many others. They may have lots of amenities but they lack good customer service and basic common sense, far from 5 star.
Welcome drink was a small bottle of water, not befitting of the setting we arrived at Room upgrade not available, despite this being part of the offer we booked Check in was 2 hours late because there were no rooms ready, we didn’t get access to our room until after 4 pm We were asked to provide a copy of our itinerary at check in, despite not having internet to access same (no access to wifi until you’re checked in) Room was tired, dirty and not like the pictures on the booking, much of the residential part of the building needs tlc Staff were less friendly overall than in other places and in a couple of cases were just rude Room was regularly not refreshed (2/6 days) we had to request water every day, and towels, bath mat, coffee etc when needed Wifi is far below expectations for a 5 star resort, you’re lucky to get through a full song without it dropping, you have to relogin multiple times a day to get access Tv would have been good to keep 3yo entertained when getting ready, didn’t work Had to request for the cooling to be reduced, lowest setting was 21, someone turned up late in the evening to look at this and reduced to 18, it was still stuffy but this was the lowest he set it to Restaurants are sub par re food and service standards, there are 4 restaurants and we dined in all of them. The food was average for the most part, with the exception of the wicked walu. Food here was delicious, staff couldn’t be more accommodating and this really was the saving grace. We would eat here every night if we had to stay again (we would not stay again, however). ‘Kids eat free’ was a marketing ploy, they only eat free at a certain place within certain hours and in the evening have to eat separate from the rest of the family in a vast function hall or pay half price to eat with everyone else. Prices are extortionate, lowest cocktail price outside of happy hour is $29, Local beers are $12, evening buffet is $85 and is or poor standard, tastes average with little variation Breakfast was ok most days Book restaurants for every evening otherwise they make you feel like an idiot, lots of eyebrow raising and breath holding, laughing and telling you you’re not likely to be able to get in to eat. Despite there being no other options nearby…
Good points Locals offer massage, drinks at significantly lower cost ($1/min massage, $5 drinks!) Crab shack nearby was amazing, highly recommend (though you’ll have to get a cab which I left to last minute and had to book through the hotel, first I was quoted $160, then when calling back to confirm it went up to $190, eventually settling on $95.) Kayaking, snorkelling all good, best early on while the tide is in otherwise it’s late afternoon before you can go Cultural touches are excellent, the locals came in to do a show of their dancing and singing one night which was brilliant
Wicked Walu - the experience, the staff, the sharks and the food are the saving grace of this place, really amazing people here! It’s a shame that the wicked walu is so let down by the rest of the hotel, it really was an experience to go here. Omelette chef was impressive to watch, she has it down to an art.
We stayed at the Fiji gateway hotel before the Warwick. Staff there were amazing and access the day trips and excursions was fantastic, close, easy. My parents stayed at the toka toka next door, they were even better, and made everything easy, comfortable and enjoyable. I’d recommend the toka toka over the...
Read moreMy partner and I stayed here for 10 nights. The location and resort itself is beautiful. I loved going snorkelling right off the beach as well as having the paddle boards and kayaks easy to grab and go. There were always amazing staff on the landscaping crew who were making sure the resort looked great. Guys like Ziggy and Tony on the activities desk were lovely and I did some weaving and garden tours with them. The evening entertainment was also really cool! We booked the meal package; which was originally advertised on booking.com as all inclusive food and drinks but a few weeks before our trip the wording changed to full board. Which meant drinks weren't included but you got meals included and a soft drink at lunch and dinner. Even though there are 5 restaurants you can only eat at one place with the meal plan. Breakfast and dinner were okay because it was a self serve buffet.. however lunch service was some of the worst service I have ever had. If it was any other restaurant I would have walked out ... however there was nowhere else to go. Each day there was something, like being seated and then ignored for 15 minutes while you wait for a menu, even then I had to wave them down. Drinks and meals would be forgotten or take forever even if there were only 5 tables filled. One day it took an hour to get our food after ordering and the table who ordered twenty minutes after us got their food and drinks first. If you are boasting and advertising a 5 star resort these things should not be happening, especially not everyday. The staff were friendly so I don't know if it's their system or what but we weren't the only guests with similar experiences.
Our room was nice, in a great location on the ground floor of the adult only pool. Which would have been perfect except for all the kids. You would think that at the adult only pool this wouldn't be a problem however there was not one day during our ten nights stay where I did not see at least one child in the pool. Although a majority of these kids were well behaved it is beside the point there should not be any kids at the adult pool. We also had a group of boys who decided to use the area in front of our room by the pool as a hangout area. They were loud, disrespectful, left rubbish and dishes, took stuff off our balcony one day they were trying to husk a coconut by throwing it around by the pool. When I had enough and told them they shouldn't be there they gave me attitude that they weren't in the pool so they could hang out wherever they wanted. Staff should be doing more to set the expectations of the adult areas. If parents bring their kids, staff should be reminding them that there is a family pool for them. Or even during check in remind families that the adult only areas like the pool and beach are for ADULTS. If you are a parent reading this, don't take your kids to adult areas. Everyone I talked to where very annoyed about it, but of course no one says anything to the parents because it's not our job as the guest to uphold pool rules.
Also change up the pool play list! Was the same 15 songs on repeat for 10 days, well on our last day they changed it for the morning.
These experiences each day really tainted our stay and I wouldn't see us coming...
Read moreI stayed at the Warwick 10 years ago with my best friend and we absolutely loved it. So when my partner and I decided to go on a holiday to Fiji with another couple, I thought we would come here again since it was so great the first time. Don't get me wrong, the location would put a lot of people off as it is a two hour trip to the resort from the Airport, so it can be a bit rough, particularly if your flight arrives late. However, its location on the coast is amazing for water activities such as snorkelling, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding as there is such a rich marine life here. The gardens of the Warwick are also exceptionally well manicured and makes it glorious to mill around in. I can fault the seemingly lack of pool lounges and hammocks around the resort as people reserve them from about 7am for the entire day. I could not fault the staff working at the Warwick, constantly working to make sure that you had everything you needed. We had particularly good service all week from an amazing waiter called Pita, who was constantly friendly and even gave us a fantastic suggestion for a cocktail! And for those reviews of how much the cocktails were, clearly weren't doing the math on the conversion rate, or were ordering the more expensive cocktails, because we found them to be a good price. The rooms are tired and definitely need a refurb, our air conditioning smelt quite mouldy in our room, but it was manageable with having the lovely breeze coming in through the doors from the balcony. We only had issues getting fresh towels on our second last day, however a call to housekeeping had them bringing fresh towels up immediately. The lack of soundproofing in the rooms is also terrible. You can hear absolutely everything through them, and if you have anyone above you, it sounds like they are jumping up and down or banging on the floor.
Unfortunately, the biggest letdown for us was the food. A lot of the food we had was not worth the money and not at all expected from a '5 star resort'. My room service one night took 1.5 hours to get to me as they got the room number wrong and have no way of tracking rooms by phone number. All four of us in our group got gastro/food poisoning during our stay which really put a dampener on my 30th birthday celebrations. I will say that the staff at the Wicked Walu were lovely in removing an item off our bill because I could not stomach the taste of their tempura batter.
Another interesting point is that there isn't really a designated 'Adults Only' section. Yes they have an adults only pool, however it is surrounded by rooms that can be booked by those with children. So even if you wanted peace and no screaming children around the pool, that might be thwarted by children returning to their rooms during the day. The other downside to this, is children running through the halls until 11pm at night. I understand that you can book the Warwick Club rooms which is a designated Adults only floor, however there are only about 30 of these rooms if that and they cost a bomb when they aren't that different to the ocean view rooms.
Overall, not a terrible experience at the Warwick, but there are definitely things that could...
