Just came back with my family from 3 nights stay in the hotel to celebrate my bday. We had two separate rooms booked.
In summary, it is a beautiful location, the rooms are small but comfortable. Breakfast is good, dinner just ok. Hotel has absolutely no communal facilities, like a games room, or even a living area to sit and enjoy a glass of wine. You pretty much pay for the room and breakfast. Everything else you have to pay on top of it. Overpriced, we wouldn’t go back.
Positives: Rooms are beautiful, bed is very comfortable. There is an extra bed in the room if you have a child which is convenient (not sure how much they would charge for that)
Location is gorgeous. You can walk around the forest, go to the observatory tower, 30mins walk from the Santa Claus village (which is a joke, but this is another story)
Restaurant is good, not great. But we didn’t find food in Rovaniemi good at all, so I guess it is what it is.
Staff is polite and available on WhatsApp 24x7.
Best experience we had was the e-snow mobile! Worth every penny (159 euros per person). It was 3 hours experience in the secret forest, driving over the frozen lake, our guide Ezequiel was absolutely fantastic! Strongly recommend.
We were lucky enough to see a tiny Aurora boreal! Mesmerising anyway.
Negatives:
Overpriced- First night we had dinner at the hotel - 4 people: 3 soups, one salad, 2 burgers, 2 dishes = 300 euros. You can make your own assessment, for us way too expensive. Ps.: don’t recommend ordering the burgers, it was not nice.
3 nights, two rooms = 4K euros! Ok, the place is beautiful and so but there is nothing else included in the rates- no facilities to be enjoyed like gym, sauna, living room to relax with your family. When asked about sauna, staff from reception sent me the price list - 199 euros per person. Then I went on asking about a “tent” structure located on the way to the room, thought it could be a space with a fireplace and a bar… the answer was it is for private events.
The staff is polite and helpful but not very knowledgeable about the city or activities.
Watch out for the cancellation policy for any activity you may want to book - pretty much you can’t rebook it or cancel, literally only if you die! That’s exactly what the...
Read moreWell, first off they didn't pick us up from the airport like the transfer we requested twice no less. We let it slide as it is only down the road from the airport funny enough (you can hear planes during the day actually as I'm writing this I hear one) so we took a short cab trip.
Second, perhaps my pronunciation of English is different to the staff. However they did not know what a Scotch and dry was, nor do they have a list of spirits. I ended up having a Scotch with ginger beer to avoid the 4th attempt. I would have probably bought more drinks but I'm still very much unsure of what they house.
Third, the rooms contain a gloriosly large viewing window in front of the bed. This would be fine if it was a mirror or one way however at night with a light on every person passing by will see whatever you are doing. That is if you care about that, yes there are curtains but you kind of lose the only reason you are out there.
Fourth, the staff seem too green. There is no leadership that I can see and as far as making sure you are charged what you order??? I ordered a bottle of Champaign, told them the room, again reiterated the room and they said it was all good. Which seems loose, as later after dinner I had to sign the meal to the room so as of yet I have no idea whether or not I'm going to be charged for the bottle.
Fifth, staff continued. First asked if we could get chips, they said we could and an hour and a bit later nothing came. At breakfast asked for a coffee and hot chocolate, coffee came, had to go back and ask for another hot chocolate. I feel like it was a communication problem, which is fine, speak up and tell me you don't understand. I'd rather that than get continually annoyed by little things that make me ultimately come here and complain, which I don't like doing.
Finally, the people are nice enough, the food was amazing, the nests were cozy. But is it worth the price? No. Staff need more leadership and this place would be incredibly dull in summer, winter...
Read moreArctic Treehouse is such a cool idea, that failed a bit on execution. Rooms are very clean, and the window is awesome - depending on what room you got. We got room 1, which was next to the restaurant. This meant that every day people walked in front of your room to get to the restaurant...Most days, it was just too awkward to leave our shades open, which kind of defeated the purpose of the whole stay. It also meant the lights and sounds from the restaurant and sled hill were a factor as well. I do think a futher out room would have been better. However, the nest feature was a hit with our son, and was a cool idea for families. As for the hotel itself, there isn't much by way of ameneties, and the service felt like just a standard hotel. While everyone was nice, nothing felt like the price we paid for the stay, and we had a few times where it felt like it was a chore that someone had to answer a question for us. Also, one of the biggest downsides, is that room temperature is controlled by thr front. You have to message them each time to change it, and for us it never was ideal. We like to sleep in cooler environments, and we asked them to turn off all heat and it would be good for a bit, but we woke up sweating. It is just frustrating to not be able to control this yourself, especially for over a grand a night. As for amenties, no free sauna, no gym, and other than the one restaurant no building or area to visit outside of your room. There is only one sled hill, and one tubing hill, which didn't seem like much compared to other resorts we visited while there. Everything on property is spread out - and while you can get a ride, that sometimes is not worth the hassle. It is a beautiful stay, but not for the price we paid, and unless it went down significantly - or more was included (like the sauna) we would not...
