We booked this hotel because it was in a château and it looked romantic and unique .However there were many details lacking overall. Firstly avoid the restaurant at all costs even though the three course meal was only €29. The food preparation and quality was terrible. Please see attached photos. The salmon I had was overcooked from frozen salmon and the greens were likely frozen greens that were boiled to mush and no longer green. The risotto was just rice coated in some weird cream and had some tasteless pieces of chicken slapped on top. We did not finish the food. They clearly also need more staff as our hardworking receptionist was doubling up as a waitress, and we noticed that there were some waits and gaps in service. The room was compact and clean, but the details were lacking. For example, the fixtures and appliances were the cheapest variety possible and didn’t match the Luxe feel that the hotel is going for. The location is slightly out of town and a 20 minute walk to all the main sites in the old town. The grounds were tidy and very pretty in photos. Much more room for improvement.

The Chateau is a unique place to stay in the Bayeux area. It is not in the City Center but is totally walkable to get to restaurants and the Cathedral. The rooms are larger with plenty of room for suitcases. The room we had only had a bathtub. There was a spray nozzle, but it was a challenge not to get the whole bathroom floor from getting wet. Our friends did have a shower in their room. There is an elevator at the Chateau for getting to the upper floors. The provided breakfast was good with mostly cold items. There were a few warm items: baked beans, bacon and sometimes eggs. The Chateau has an interesting history and was used during the occupation by the Germans.

This is not a 4 star hotel. The location is really beautiful. No words against that. However first thing that really let me down was the room. We didn't have room in the main building. Service was also pretty bad. Only a few people could speak English. There were no personal. They didn't clean tables. The food was cold. Definitely not a 4 star breakfast. Another huge issue for me was the Internet. I needed it for work. It was very slow and pretty much unusable. There were few positive things like location and very good restaurant.

A disappointing experience

We recently booked a four-day stay at this hotel and unfortunately our experience fell short of expectations. As frequent travelers who have stayed in a wide range of hotels, this particular stay was one of our biggest disappointments.

Positive Aspects: The hotel is situated in a lovely, quiet location with a beautiful garden, providing a peaceful environment. Our room was spacious, as was the bathroom, offering plenty of comfort in terms of size. The hotel staff was friendly. Parking was ample and conveniently free of charge, which was a definite plus. The breakfast featured excellent bread, and the presence of a machine for freshly squeezed orange juice was a nice touch. The hotel is relatively close to the Bayeux center, making it a convenient location for exploring the area. The beds were quite comfortable, contributing to a good night's sleep.

-Negative aspects While the hallway leading to our room in the first floor looked clean at first sight, it had a permanent terrible odor alike moist/mold. While most of the time the odor was confined to the hallway, it ocasionally leaked into our room which we found unacceptable, especially when trying to rest in bed. This was without a question the worst aspect of the hotel. When we noticed this we checked older reviews in google and then we realized that it had been an issue for quite some time. The rooms lacked air conditioning. While this may not be an issue in cooler weather, it became uncomfortable on warmer days, which is not what one would expect from a four-star hotel. The toilet in our room made an extended noise while refilling the tank after flushing, which was somewhat disruptive. -The doorknob of the wardrobe was loose. Although the breakfast was sufficient, the overall selection was quite limited. We understand that smaller hotels may have a reduced offering, but for a hotel of this category, one would definitely expect more variety. The cleanliness of the breakfast room and the cutlery was unacceptable, as both were noticeably dirty, falling far below the standards one would expect. The hotel appeared understaffed at certain times of the day, and on some occasions, there was no English-speaking staff available at the reception. Charging for water in a room that costs €260 per night seems like an unnecessary and rather cheap gesture, particularly given the price point. This was the most expensive hotel of our week-long trip around Normandy, and at €260 per night, we expected a higher standard of experience. Unfortunately, this was not the case, and it was actually the least satisfactory of the four hotels we stayed in, including one that was rated as a three-star. The value for money was poor, and the supposed charm of the chateau did not justify the high price. In summary, while there were some positive aspects to our stay, the overall experience did not meet the expectations set by the hotel's four-star rating and the price we paid. We hope that the management will address these issues to improve the experience for...

We had the following things that were not good: Wi fi works only sometimes or very week Bathroom had a used soap in the shower when we came in and stayed there for 2 days. Disgusting. Breakfast buffet was nothing g out of the ordinary for 17.95 per person with very bad coffee. No coffee available anywhere foe hotel guests. Our bed killed our backs. Hotel needs some work. No light in halls. The worse was the attitude of the guys in reception during the day, short, blonde and " nice" guy but really was not. Only one person, him, takes care of reception, bar and swans if they run out of the property. First day we check in he was nice and friendly, offer us if we wanted to have a drink by the fireplace. We came down, no one was there, waited, went to reception and then kitchen and after that he came in and served us 2 drinks. He then disappeared, did not offered a snack( which every place in Paris they give something to snack on with a drink). When we finished we wanted directions to go to town and he had left, someone from the kitchen helped us by saying it was a 5 min walk when it was more a 20 min walk. Two days later, we come in, want a drink and no one is around. We looked in reception, kitchen etc. So, we served ourselves 2 drinks of whisky. About 25 min later he comes in because other people are coming . He says hi, looked at us and I said to him we served ourselves 2 drinks and HE SAID WELL IT LOOKS MORE LIKE DOUBLES and please don't do that you are not supposed to do that!! SO WE GOT REPRIMENDED. WE WERE THERE FOR AN HOUR PLUS AND HE GAVE OTHER PEOPLE THAT CAME AND ORDER DRINKS , PEANUTS ( in a plastic cup) and then came to us and ask us DO YOU WANT ANY PEANUTS? unbelievable experience with this place and thus guy. We travel a lot and many places have honesty bars. I...

This is not a 4 star lodging. The staff is overworked and indifferent. We arrived at night to do the check-in and the reception was empty. A very confused girl said that she couldn't give us the room, we had to wait 30 min because she was also waiting tables for dinner while doing the reception. Also she couldn't communicate well. The rest of the stay (4 Nights) we felt like the staff was no place to be found. They weren't helpful when we needed it. For example, didn't give us restaurant recommendations when asked and when we noticed that theres was No internet connection in our room, we called the reception and were left with a dry "im sorry", the staff didn't even try to solve the problem. Days later we found out by ourselves that there was a router in the corridor, outside the bedroom, and it was unplugged. After that, wifi worked fine ( I think this could've been checked by the staff previously.) The breakfast is sad and not 4 stars worthy. The same girl in the reception also supervised the breakfast and was to busy to have tables cleaned and set, because of that we had no cutlery to use. And we also felt the place unsafe, not only the fire alarm rang loudly in the morning (without any explanation from the staff), you can enter late at night into the hotel without being seen or greeted by anyone in the reception. About the conditions of the room, I was sad that it had such a dark decor, which made it gloomy and without any sunlight, it felt like a cave. Nevertheless, the gardens were nice, so was the cleaniness. Don't recommend it unless you want to park the car for free and to be near all the sights, because the price we pay isn't adjusted to...
