I can't love this place more. We had a fantastic time. I wish we had plans to visit the Normandy region again/more often because I would make this our regular hotel for France without hesitation. We stayed in the main house. The room was huge by European standards and even pretty spacious by US standards if you're wondering. The pics don't do the size justice - you'll have plenty of room to sprawl and have a nice large bed. The bathroom is spacious, too. Big windows that open two different ways - either completely swing inward or tip inward from the top - gave us a beautiful view of the back garden. The property is beautiful and serene. We slept with the windows open every night. Very quiet, restful sleep. The staff was absolutely amazing, accommodating, and gentle with even the most obtuse and rude guests we observed. Most of the clientele were Americans like us and some were just...embarrassing - do better! Breakfast was delicious - all locally sourced goodies and juices. Plenty of space to park a car, which we had to tour the region, but the hotel is within walking distance of all the local restaurants and shops so, we didn't have to drive around Bayeux at all; however, it is also far enough removed from the bustling city center that we didn't have any of the crowds or traffic on top of us. Looking at a map is a little deceiving - I was concerned that the hotel would be a little far from Bayeux attractions and restaurants - I even researched the public parking lots ahead of time - but, it really isn't far at all - we walked to and from dinner every night and to the shops, the Tapestry museum, etc. without any issues. Perfect location. All around everything we could have wanted and more for the five nights we...
Read moreMy niece (37), brother, sister-in-law and I had a lovely 3 night stay at Domaine de Bayeux in late September. The structure dates from the late 1700s I believe, with some grounds around it for strolling or sitting; it has been used as a hotel since the 1990s if I recall correctly. My niece and I shared a "suite with balcony" in the "old" (main) building - that was a matter of availability of a room that could be configured with 2 twin beds and timing of our reservation. It was very large with a sitting area with two child sized sleeper chairs. Beds were comfortable, and staff was very accommodating. They only serve breakfast, which was ample and very good (best fruit & nut bread I had the entire trip) but there was a sitting room next to reception and the staff would bring drinks (alcohol and non-alcohol) to you the rest of the day if you wanted, into the evening. ||The hotel is abut a 10 minute walk up a small hill to the center part of town, so if you have issues walking or have small children you don't want to tote it may not be be an ideal spot for you. I am 73 and in ok but not great shape, and it was fine for me. We were fortunate in that the weather was very cooperative during our stay there (after several days rain in Paris); other wise, desert rat that I am (don't do walking in the rain), I would have been stocking my own charcutier or trying French Uber eats for dinner! ||One last small thing -- both here and another similar place we stayed in near Amboise, the toiletries in the room did not include conditioner, and we also did not see any in the markets we checked. It must not be as common outside the major...
Read moreWe had a wonderful stay at DDB. The location is terrific; short walk to the train station and ~10 minutes to the town center. The hotel itself is beautiful. The grounds are magnificent. There is an apple tree with apples that had fallen and are edible.||We stayed in the new building. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. We did have a couple issues with room 22 where my elderly parents stayed. The wifi did not work at all in that room and it had a noticeable rotten smell (perhaps sewer or a dead animal somewhere?) We brought both issues to the attention of the staff but were told the wifi was a known issue and nothing could be done. This was problematic as there was also virtually no cellular service in that location. The guests in the neighboring rooms reported the same wifi issues. If you need wifi for work, research of restaurants or for any other reason, I suggest avoiding the "lower" new building. The main building a "upper" new building had strong wifi. The staff reported a plan to correct this issue during the off season. With respect to the rotten smell, the room was cleaned again but the smell returned.||I had a very pleasant chat with the owner one morning. She and her husband purchase the hotel earlier this year. She was engaging and discussed various improvements they intend to make to the property.||Overall, I would highly recommend this property. Just beware of the lack of wifi in one of the three buildings until...
